Western Cape Provincial Team for FIFA '15 announced

It is generally accepted that the standard of play in EA's title FIFA '15 is of a high standard.

South Africa, through Mind Sports South Africa, has lead many forays into the international competitive scene since 2009. however, none more notable than in this year when in earlier this year, the South African National Team bravely took on Austria.

The South African Team all hails from Mpumulanga, and is also the team that carries the flag for such province.

However, the Western Cape has a team that they hope will defeat the team from Mpumalanga.

The team is headed by Fairmont learner Andrew Reeve, who is the Western Cape Champion. However, the team also draws on the experience of veteran players.

Godfrey Eybers of Ocean View is a dab hand a the game and has many years of experience in such title. His inclusion into the team is thus without question.

Then there is also Logan Brooke-Smith. Logan is the only South African to have won a World Championship title in eSports at the World Cyber Games. Logan brings international experience to the team to make the trio a formidable force.

The match between the Western Cape and Mpumulanga in the MWEB Online Inter-Provincial Test Match series will be most interesting indeed!

Western Cape Provincial Team for DotA 2 announced

During the MWEB Online Inter-Schools Championships, the 'DotA 2' teams from Fish Hoek High School and Parklands College tussled for first place. However, the final result ended with both Fish Hoek and Parklands tied for first place.

Tying for first place did not satisfy the competitive nature of the Fish Hoek High DotA 2 team, and thus, in the Western Cape Championships, the high school team demonstrated just how good they are.

At such championships the team romped home to first place while utterly defeating all the teams that stood in their way.

The solid teamwork and leadership allowed the Fish Hoek DotA 2 team end on a perfect score.

Thus the MSSA, after due consideration has selected the Fish Hoek team to represent the Western Cape in the MWEB online inter-provincial test series.

The team is young, but it is believed by the MSSA hierarchy that such school teams are the way forward in developing South Africa's future players.

The main threat to the Western Cape team is that of Gauteng. The team from Gauteng is made up of the Tuks Mindsports Club, and such team from Tuks is considered by many to be South Africa's Protea team-in-waiting.

It is hoped that Fish Hoek will rise to the challenge, and with the whole of the Western Cape cheering them on, continue with their undefeated streak.

Western Cape Provincial Team for CounterStrike: GO announced

Already the Gauteng and Mpumulanga Provinces have played against each other in the MWEB online inter-provincial test matches in DotA and CounterStrike:GO.

At such test matches, Gauteng beat Mpumulanga in both titles.

However, with the completion of the Western Cape Championships on 23 August 2015, the MSSA has finally selected the team to represent the Western Cape in such online test series.

The team is none other than the team that represented Rondebosch Boys High at the Western Cape Championships.

Although the team is young, the standard of play, and the cohesion of the team has convinced the Selectors that this team will be more than a match for those as fielded by the other provinces.

It is believed that the only real threat to the Western Cape Team winning the series is the team fielded by Gauteng. The Gauteng team also doubles as the current Protea Team.

Senior Provincial Colours awarded at the 2015 MWEB Western Cape Championships

A number of players earned their Senior Provincial Colours at the 2015 MSSA MWEB Western Cape Championships.

In order to do so, the players all performed to the highest levels of play in that they won all the games that they played.

it is interesting to note that the majority of those so awarded are learners. This indeed bodes well for the future development of gaming at school level and shows that it is indeed the schools that are the breeding ground for South Africa's future national teams.

Truly a remarkable achievement!

Andrea is off to invade Russia!

Andrea Bosch receiving Western Cape Provincial Colours
In a previous article, I posted that the MSSA stated that they would be sending a player to participate in the
2015 edition of the Russian and Brazilian World Championships for the Brazilian and Russian variations of Draughts to be held in St Petersburg, Russia from 2 to 11 October 2015.

I too noted that the championship carries prize money of 3,600,000.00 roubles (approximately US$64,000.00).

Such article can be found here: http://esportscommentator.blogspot.com/2015/08/brazilian-and-russian-draughts.html

Well, the MSSA Management Board (ManCom) has sat and has decided on its candidate for such World Championships.

The candidate is, wait for it, wait for it (drum-roll)

The candidate is none other than the vivacious Fairmont High Educator, Ms Andrea Bosch.

Andrea already has Senior Western Cape Provincial Colours having won both the eSports game of Tekken Tag Tournament II, as well as for Brazilian Draughts without losing a game at the 20th edition of the MWEB Western Cape Championships.

Andrea is too the first women that will officially represent South Africa in Draughts, and will be the first draughts player to represent South Africa in Russia.

Andrea is too the first person from the Western Cape to officially represent South Africa in draughts.

Mind Sports South Africa knows that she will do South Africa proud.

Results of the MWEB 20th Western Cape Championships

The MWEB 20th Western Cape Championships that was played on 22 & 23 August 2015 and which was hosted by Fairmont High School, Durbanville proved to be a great success. Elize Crouse proved to be a most efficient administrator, and the problems with which the MSSA had to deal with were unexpected late entries as well as some of the teams not being aware of the rules of the competition.

What proved to be most pleasing was the number of learners that had attended the event. In fact only four events out of the 11 for which there were sufficient entries were not won by learners, and then three out of the four were won by educators.

Of course, much of the growth in the championship is due to the announcement by the MSSA that it will be sending a full team to the 7th IeSF World Championships in Seoul in December 2015.

The strength of gaming at school level bodes well for the growth of gaming both nationally and internationally.

With so many learners more than ably competing with their older counterparts, the MSSA is confident that it will find a great deal of talent in the schools. This talent, will be nurtured in order to provide a more aggressive competitive base in South Africa, which will hopefully be able to be translated into results on the international stage.

Thus it was not surprising to see the MSSA hand out Senior and High School Provincial Colours to no less than 36 gamers.
