MSSA names its candidate for IESF's International Referee Workshop.

Jessie Joubert.
International Esports Federation (IESF) shall be holding its international referee workshop in Busan, South Korea, in mid December 2018.

National Federations were requested to propose suitable candidates based on te following criteria:
  • With minimum experience of tournament operations of 2years, over 10 esports events
  • Referee candidate(s) need to be recommended by the National Federation for an official Referee License
  • Speak English(Fluent)

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) put out the call, and from the applications received, chose the Registered Player who is the most qualified.

Thus MSSA selected Jessie Joubert (ZAG Academy) who has umpired more events in South Africa than any other person who so applied.

Jessie has not only excelled as an umpire, but has also proven his abilities in the technical aspects as well.

Now all that needs to happen is for IESF to announce the names of those selected to attend its international referee workshop in Busan.

Open season!

Curro Klerksdorp's esports team proudly wearing club livery.
Mind Sports South Africa's transfer season (or window) runs from 1 November to 28 February of every year.

The transfer season  applies to all the disciplines, such as, board games, card games, esports, and wargames.

In many organised sports there are clear 'windows' in which transfers may occur.

Certainly there is such a period in esports in Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

But what of South Africa? How does it work in South Africa, and more importantly, how is it regulated by the official controlling body - Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA)?

In MSSA, an athlete may only ever represent one club at a time. The club that the athlete represents is the club that has registered the athlete first. So, let's presume that an athlete starts off the year playing for a school club, and through his own ability improves enough for a private club to offer him/her a position.

The school club has to release the athlete. Such is done by advising MSSA, and then such athlete may be transferred.

However, it should be noted that a club may refuse to issue a 'clearance certificate' if the athlete is not in good standing with his/her club. Of course the athlete may appeal to MSSA as the governing body which will then either uphold or dismiss the appeal.

List of MSSA's National Team Managers since 1991.

Joseph Mathlong (National Team Manager for Wargames).
In the past twenty-seven (27) years, Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has had twenty (20) registered players that have served in the role of National Team Manager (NTM).

National team managers are an integral part of the national team. The national team manager sits with the selectors to select the national team, and does most of the administration inn regard to entering the team into the various events.

Team are also expected to travel with the team, and ensure that the team, like a highly tuned performance engine, is firing on all cylinders.

The team manager also has to take hard decisions, negotiate team member's feelings, and manage the team on a daily basis.

To be absolutely blunt, it is hard work holding he position, and in my opinion is held by the bravest of the brave.

The full list of all MSSA's National Team Managers since 1991 is as follows:
