Reminder: D-Day for positions of National Team Manager.

In terms of the recent changes of the rules governing the appointment of the National Team Managers, the Selection Committee has requested that all Registered Players interested in standing for the position of National Team Manager submit their Curriculum Vitae (CV) on or before 22 July 2019.

To stand for the position of National Team Manager a Registered Player must have:

• Been a current or past member of the Management Board, or
• Held office for at least three years in an administrative or technical capacity for MSSA, or
• Already served as a National Team Manager, or
• Earned Protea Colours.

A National Team Manager may be appointed for each discipline, being:

• Board gaming,
• Esports, and
• Wargames

The National Team Manager shall be appointed on a contract basis at the discretion of the Selection Committee.

Proposed changes to the position of National Team Manager.

Mind Sports South Africa's National Team Manager (NTM) is vital in ensuring the discipline, training schedule, and performance of the National Protea Team. 

It is the National Team Manager that is held responsible for the performance, or non-performance, of the national team. Obviously there are sometimes extenuating circumstances which MSSA's  Management Board takes into account upon reviewing the performance of the National Team Manager.

To help MSSA choose the best  possible National Team Manager, MSSA is proposing to increase the number of criteria in order to allow even more Registered Players to qualify for this ever  so important position.

The proposed rules also remove the selection of the National Team Manager from the Management Board and places such selection of such position in the hands of the Selection Committee. It is thought that such a move will remove the appointee from being a political appointment and, instead, ensure that the position shall be based purely on merit and limit political wrangling on the Management Board.

With the Selection Committee themselves being responsible for the performance of the National Team Manager and the National Team, the appointment of an ineffective National Team Manager could mean the replacement of the entire Selection Committee.

The proposed changes are:

40. NATIONAL TEAM MANAGERS

40.1 National Team Managers shall be appointed by the Selection Committee from Registered Players who are:

a. Current or past members of the Management Board, or

b. Have held office for at least three years in an administrative or technical capacity for MSSA, or

c. Have already served as a National Team Manager, or

d. Have earned Protea Colours.

40.2 Team Managers shall be appointed on a contractual basis to be determined by the Selection Committee.

40.3 All such contracts shall require ManCom approval.

40.4 The Selection Committee may dismiss a National Team Manager for non performance.

40.5 Members of the Selection Committee shall not be eligible for selection.

Joseph Mathlong (North West University - Vaal) has made his mark since he first became a Registered Player in 2017.

Not content with only running the club at North West University - Vaal, Joseph has become an accomplished Morabaraba player (having won the 2018 Gauteng Championships), and a dedicated administrator after having been elected onto MSSA's Management Board.

Now Joseph has yet another feather in his cap.

Not only is he the National Team Manager for Board games, Joseph has (with effect from 10 May 2018) been appointed as the National Team Manager for figure gaming.

There is no doubt that Joseph will be more than capable in the role and will guide the teams on a successful path forward.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) needs to select a new National Team Manager for Esports.

Those wishing to volunteer their services to be the National Team Manager (NTM) must please volunteer asap so that MSSA's Management Board may make a decision as such NTM is required to participate in the team selection.

Registered Players have a deadline of the end of business on Thursday, 10 May 2018 for nominations.

All Registered Players are reminded that the rule for selecting a Team Manager is (as per the Constitution):

• Any member of the Management Board, or
• Any Registered Player who has held any office for at least three years in an administrative or technical capacity for MSSA, or
• Any Registered Player who has already served as a National Team Manager

Adele 'Nitebabe' Janse van Rensburg appointed as Esports National Team Manager.

Adele Janse van Rensburg is enjoying many of the benefits of membership.

In 2016 Adele received Mind Sports South Africa's Sportsmanship Award - the Dorian Love Trophy.

Then in December, Adele was elected to the position of Vice-President in MSSA's Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Adele too has earned herself Provincial Colours and has also been inducted as an official Provincial Umpire.

It seems as there is no stopping Adele as she takes on hurdle-after-hurdle, and all this while still holding down a job as well as running the club Generation X.

Well, Adele is not to be stopped as she has now been appointed by MSSA's Board as the National Team Manager for Esports.

The  position of National Team Manager is integral to the success of the team, and Adele's first appearance in this role shall be for the online test match for the esports titles of FIFA and Tekken in which Mind Sports South Africa takes on African rivals, Ghana.
