- Current or past members of the Management Board, or
- Have held office for at least three years in an administrative or technical capacity for MSSA, or
- Have already served as a National Team Manager, or
- Have earned Protea Colours.
Thus there is a greater opportunity for many of MSSA's Registered Players to qualify for the position. Theoretically, a person who has even held the position of Regional Director for at least three years, or a past team member, can now be appointed as a National Team Manager for a team.
An interesting aspect of the changes effected at MSSA's 2018 Annual General Meeting is that the selection of the team manager has now been taken away from the control of the Management Committee and placed in the hands of experts. It is also interesting to note that under the revised rules, the Selectors may now appoint managers for various teams and not be confined, as in the past, to selecting managers exclusively per discipline. For example, on my reading of the rules, a manager could be appointed for a female team, and so forth. There may even be different managers selected for senior and junior teams.

Certainly, in the past, MSSA, has had exceptional national team managers.
The revisions will ensure that MSSA's national team managers continue to be the best that can be appointed in order to deliver teams that can represent South Africa with pride.
