Wanting it more...

MSSA's 2019 Protea Esports Team at IESF's 2019 World Championships.
Success is often obtained by those who want it more than the other. Wishing does not get you there, you have to work longer hours, practice harder, work smarter, be more diligent, and put personal feelings aside.

As Zvi Katabi used to say, "When you are sleeping, someone else is training."

To be selected for the South African Protea Esports Team is no different.

Personal likes and dislikes have to be put aside, and athletes have to commit themselves to following the rules in order to be selected.

It should be noted, however, that Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), in these times of COVID-19, have made some important changes to the 2020 edition of its National Team Trials (NTT) from which its 2020/2021 National Protea Esports Squads will be selected.

The changes are:

  • The date has been changed to 19 September 2020 in order to accommodate as many South African athletes as possible, and
  • The event shall be held online in order to ensure the safety and well-being of its athletes.
Holding the event as an online event is an exception due to the current crises in South Africa. With the rrate of infection rising on a daily basis, and the South African government expecting the rate of infection to increase dramaticallly in August and September this year, MSSA is not prepared to place any of its athletes under any risk whatsoever.

MSSA is working on a full set of rules that shall be used for the conduct of such National Team Trials which shall be distributed to all clubs by mid August 2020.
