Whether 'tis fear....

The impressive Matthew Raubach (Capt.) of the Protea Esports Team for the DotA 2 esports title.

On Saturday, 7 February 2026, South Africa was drawn against both Botswana and Zambia in the Reqional Qualifiers for Global Esports Federation's (GEF) GEG25 World Finals to be held in Mumbai, India, from 26 February to 1 March 2026.

Unfortunately neither team pitched at the allotted time and the South African Protea Esports Team for the DotA 2 esports title were credited with the wins.

No-one is ever happy to  take a win this way - especially when South Africa has such a strong team, but maybe that's why they didn't show....

Today, Sunday, 8 February 2026, the team, clad in battle gear are ready for their two opponents being
Namibia at 16H00 and Malawi at 21H00.

Botswana has an esports Federation

Letso Baker, the newly elected President of the Botswana Electronic Sports Federation

The newly created Botswana Electronic Sports Federation  (BESF) has now been accepted into affiliate membership with the IESF.

Certificate of affiliate membership.

Letso Baker had liaised consistently with Colin Webster (President of Mind Sports South Africa - MSSA).

"Letso is energetic, hardworking and disciplined, and the esports community expects great things from both Letso and Botswana as a whole," said Colin Webster.

Boban Totovski, General Secretary of IESF, has sent warm congratulations and has stated that IESF looks forward to collaborating with BESF in the future.

It is therefore, of no surprise, that BESF is already able to put teams forward in the Mobile Legends Bang Bang, PUBGM, and eFootball titles.

All those interested in participating in official international esports events for Botswana should contact Letso Baker on WhatsApp +267 71 702 143

Botswana on the way to enter the gaming fraternity.

From left to right: Tiro Tirelo, Colin Webster, and Angel Ayman Setombeko IV.
Because Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) was founded in 1985 and accepted as a sporting code in 1991 by both COSAS (Confederation of South African Sport) and NOSC (National Olympic Sports Council), MSSA knows just how difficult it is to get gaming to be accredited as a sport. Thus MSSA goes out of its way to assist other countries to form National Federations and to join the greater international community. As part of the drive to have more African states involved in gaming, MSSA is now lending assistance to Botswana, and on Wednesday, 10 May 2017, MSSA met with the driving force of gaming in Botswana, being Tiro Tirelo and Angel Ayman Setombeko IV. Tiro and Angel have worked tirelessly, at personal cost, to get gaming accredited as a sport in Botswana and already have achieved much. It is now only a matter of time before Botswana enters the greater international family as a full member.
