Key Debates
– What’s your Chances of Scoring Meaningful Sponsorship Deals in 2018?
– Why Event Organisers & Sponsors Should ReInnovate their Activation Strategies in 2018
– Why organisations should Effectively Negotiate the true “Brand-Value” of their Rights
– Why Sponsors want to Extract greater ROI & ROO benefits from a Sponsorship Deal
– Managing Athlete Endorsements and Image Rights in Sponsorship Deals
The 2018 Sport Events Sponsorship Research Report will be released at the Forum.
 Join us at the 5th edition of Sports Sponsorship Forum to debate sponsorship and activation in a disruptive economy.
The Forum will feature some of SA’s premier thought leaders and sponsors sharing their know-how with our delegates in a highly interactive and key learning environment.
A panel of experts will kick off the proceedings by debating the Sponsorship Outlook Survey Report, which will reveal some interesting information on how organisers and rights holders view their status and appetite for sponsorship during 2018.
The Forum will debate the key challenges pertaining to the most important factors influencing the decisions of brand custodians when evaluating a sponsorship proposal.
Also, what they would look for in terms of their own expected Return on Investment (RIO) and Return on Objectives (ROOs) respectively. Representatives from major brands will also share with our delegates the current trends among the thinking of sponsors and how rights holders should craft their sponsorship proposals to make it more attractive to these decision makers.
According to leading industry expert, David Sidenberg, Director, BMi SportInfo, “the sponsorship industry has long been built on rights owners providing rights and assets to build connections between brands and audiences. However, while technological advances and a shift in media consumption are empowering sports fans and raising their expectations, much of the sponsorship industry is largely doing things as it has always done.
“As we near the end of the first phase of the relationship between sport and social media, which is largely based on huge over-claims of reach and relevance, The Forumwill take a closer look for evidence of deep fan engagement in the sponsorship arena”.
Sidenberg will also be sharing the experiences and valuable findings of BMi Sport Info’s most recent research reports on eSports and Millennials and he will unpack what has been learnt about the unique challenges and opportunities brought by digital disruption to the South African Sport & Sponsorship industry at large.
Why You Should Attend the Forum
The Forum will offer delegates an ideal platform to learn from our thought leaders as to what currently works within the sponsorship arena and why brands are starting to demand more rights to optimally leverage their investment in events.
Delegates will also be allowed to give their point of view and further network with their peers during lunch at the end of the Forum.

FIFA '18 - Learners who have qualified for National Team Trials.

Mikhyle Naidoo of Northcliff High School.
Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) first introduced the esports title of FIFA in 2005, and such title has been included in every year since then. Participation in MSSA's 8th Online Inter-School Championships held on 10 February 2018 showed solid growth in this title and delivered good results.

Five players in MSSA's 8th Online Inter-School Championships all earned their berths in MSSA's 2018 National Team Trials.

FIFA was played at IESF's 2009, 2010, and 2011 World Championships (TaebaekDaegu, and Andong), and MSSA sent players in all three years to represent South Africa. MSSAhas too sent nationnal teams to Windhoek, Namibia, as well as having competed online against Zimbabwe, Ghana, and Namibia.

The criteria to qualify for such trials all Registered Players that win a Regional Championship shall earn an invitation to National Team Trials.

Also, all Registered Players that score within the top 20% or top three places, whichever is greater, in a specific Period at a Provincial or National Championship shall earn an invitation to National Team Trials.

It should be remembered that members of the current Protea Squad automatically earn a berth at the National Team Trials (NTT) should they have met their obligations in terms of participation at MSSA events.

Hearthstone - Learners who have qualified for National Team Trials.

Hearthstone players at Paul Roos Gimnasium.
Hearthstone, originally known as Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, is a free-to-play online collectible card video game developed and published by Blizzard Entertainment. Having been released worldwide on March 11, 2014, Hearthstone builds upon the already existing lore of the Warcraft series by using the same elements, characters, and relics. It was first released for Microsoft Windows and macOS, with support for iOS and Android devices being added later. The game features cross-platform play, allowing players on any supported device to compete with each other, restricted only by geographical region account limits.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) first introduced the title in 2015, and such title has been included in every year since then. Participation in MSSA's 8th Online Inter-School Championships held on 10 February 2018 showed the potential of this title and delivered good results.

The top three players in MSSA's 8th Online Inter-School Championships all earned their berths in MSSA's 2018 National Team Trials.

Hearthstone was played at IESF's 2015 and 2016 World Championships (Seoul and Jakarta), and MSSA sent players in both years to represent South Africa.

Important notice apropos MSSA's 2018 National Team Trials.

Up until now it has been the rule for Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) to announce the venue for National Team Trials (NTT) in the first week of May of each year.

This is because such Trials is always held in the province which delivers the most eligible Registered Players. As such, National Team Trials has the ability to be held in any province, and has in the past been held in KwaZulu Natal, Western Cape and Gauteng.

However, since the announcement of the venue just one month prior to such National Team Trials does not allow clubs that are far away from the venue adequate time to organise themselves in order to travel to the event, MSSA's Management Board has now allowed that the venue be announced within the 1st week of April of each year.

However, even though the two events, being MSSA's 2018 Online Provincial Championships, and MSSA's 2018 Mpumulanga Championships are held after such announcement date, both championships shall still count towards qualifying for the event, but shall have no bearing on determining the venue of such trials.

It should be further noted that MSSA's 2017 Online Provincial Championships, and MSSA's 2017 Mpumulanga Championships shall count towards determining the venue for the 2018 National Team Trials.

The date of the National Team Trials for esports remains unchanged and is 2 and 3 June 2018.

MSSA's umpiring course - 3 March 2018.

One of the most important aspects of a well run championship is the consistency and standard of umpiring.

Umpiring affects every aspect of a championship, and since Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is highly cognisant of such, MSSA shall be holding a number of umpires' courses during 2018.

Such umpiring courses around the country shall ensure that umpires are certified and are fully aware of their duties and responsibilities.

The first such course shall be done as follows:

Date: 3 March 2018
Time: 9H00 - 18H00
Cost: R300.00 per person. Payment is required by 228 February 2018.
Venue: Curro Klerksdorp, 22 Elm St, Klerksdorp

The cost will include morning and afternoon tea, and lunch.

The course shall include:
* Ethics
* Background to MSSA's systems
* Roles of the different umpires
* Entry
* Basic rules to the games
* Pairings
* Data capturing of results
* How results are further used

At the end, a test will be given, and those that pass will be accredited as umpires.

Any Registered Player who is 18 or older may register for such course through their member club.

Vainglory - Learners who have qualified for National Team Trials.

Northcliff High's gamers receiving school awards.
Vainglory has pushed the boundaries of what is possible when it comes to mobile games, and has created the world of esports.

Vainglory is ae esport title developed and published by Super Evil Megacorp for iOS and Android devices.

Vainglory is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) game which has a little bit of similarities to the popular MOBAs League of Legends and Dota 2 but is instead designed for smartphones and tablets. As standard for the genre, two opposing teams fight to reach and destroy the enemy's base while defending their own base along lanes which connect the bases. In addition, there is a "jungle" beetween the lanes, which contains creatures and objectives that can be killed or captured.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) first introduced the title in 2017, and while particiation in such title was disappointing in 2017, participation has grown. Participation in MSSA's 8th Online Inter-School Championships held on 10 February 2018 actually exceeded the numbers of participation at all of the events held in 2017.

In 2017, the team from Northcliff won every event in which they played, and with the increased number of participants in 2018, many an official wondered if they would hold onto their lead.

They did!

Northcli
ff High School romped home to victory in MSSA's 8th Online Inter-School Championships to earn their berth in MSSA's 2018 National Team Trials.

MSSA's 8th Online Inter-School Championships allowed two other teams to also qualify for MSSA's National Team Trials (NTT).

Unfortunately Vainglory is not played out of school level, and will not be played at MSSA's 36th Gauteng Championships, but will be played at all school championships and leagues.

League of Legends - Learners who have qualified for National Team Trials.

Westville Boys' 'Toxic Monkeys'.

The esports title of League of Legends has been played at IESF's World Championships in 2013 (Bucharest), 2015 (Seoul), 2016 (Jakarta), and in 2017 (Busan).

Thus it is no surprise that Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) promotes the title as much as possible at every level.

The various League of Legends teams that have represented South Africa at all of the above-named IESF World Championships have done so with pride, made many a new friend, and have been an absolute credit to the country.

However, it all starts at school level.

MSSA's 8th Online Inter-School Championships held on 10 February 2018, were hotly fought, and although 'Toxic Monkeys' (Westville Boys) were the ultimate victors, three teams (15 players) have qualified for MSSA's National Team Trials (NTT).

Many more gamers will no doubt qualify for such Trials at MSSA's 36th Gauteng Championships to be held at Northcliff High School to be held on 24 and 25 February 2018.
