Calling for nominations: Womens' Desk

The position of Womens' Desk has been available since 2005 when such position was held by Ruth Davey (Maritzburg Christian School).

Since then, only four other Registered Players have held the position of Womens' Desk even though it is one of the most vital of all positions on the Management Board.

Recently Dr. Janine Brand most recently held the position, but due to her term of office ending, the position is now vacant.

The four who have held the position are:

• Dr. Janine Brand (Valhalla)
• Blair Hamberger (VexxedPhoenix)
• Morizane Boyes (VexxedPhoenix)
• Ledile Tshwane (University of Johannesburg)
• Ruth Davey (Maritzburg Christian School)

The incumbent must be a female, and must be concerned with promoting the rights of women and ensuring that all decisions, rules, and regulations conform with gender equity.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is totally committed to enforcing, and promoting, gender equity at all levels.

It is therefore not surprising that MSSA has a female president, that MSSA has clauses within its constitution enforcing gender equity, and that it is the only National Federation in IESF that has had female athletes in its national team every year since 2011.

Thus, this is not a position for 'shrinking violets', this is a position for those with passion, dedication, and commitment.

MSSA's Amanda Kwaza impresses at IESF National Federation workshop.

Part of the duty of any international federation is to ensure that there is a transfer of knowledge among its member national federations. The transfer of knoweldge allows best practices to be divulged to all and allows the more established national federations to share their knowledge base with the younger members.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is not only the oldest federation in the world for esports, but it is also the only organisation in the world that has continually held championships for esports since 1998.

Thus International Esports Federation (IESF) used the the period after its Global Esports Executive Summit for its national federations to meet and participate in a top-of-the-line workship. While other delegates were shown the sights of dynamic Busan, National Federation representatives were in IESF's offices exploring better and new ways of dealing with issues.

Amanda Pakade (MSSA's President) was quick to step up to the plate to reveal to other members the manner in which MSSA deals with issues. A number of members were enthralled with the clear and crisp manner in which Amanda addressed those present.

The workshop was an undoubted success, and all IESF's member national federations benefitted from it.

Through such workshops, all federations are strengthened, and ultimately, IESF itself.

Busan Metropolitan Government to cooperate actively in developing esports.

Mayor Oh Keo-don, Mayor of  Busan Metropolitan Government, met with Colin Webster, president of the International Esports Federation, at 16H30 p.m.on 18 June 2019 at the reception room on the seventh floor of the city hall. In such meeting it was decided that  Busan Metropolitan Government would cooperate actively on matters that require mutual cooperation for the development of esports.

Founded in 2008, the International Esports Federation (IeSF) is an international federation that oversees global esports, and Busan City hosted the International Esports Federation to Busan in 2017 to target the global esports market, and has been pushing for the world's first international esports R&D center project since 2018 to support research and development in the public sector.

The international esports R&D center will be promoted in cooperation with the federation, and is also expected to gain momentum when the esports Sangmu Stadium opens next year, Oh Keo-don said in a reception. 

"Since the relocation of the office to Busan, we have been promoting a number of collaborative projects, including the Global Executive Eports Summit, and I feel that our city's status in the esports market has greatly increased."

The Busan Metropolitan Government and the International esports Federation will cooperate with each other in establishing Busan's foundation as an esports mecca city and creating a sound foundation for leisure and cultural activities through games.

Meanwhile, Busan City, Busan Information Industry Promotion Agency (Jae) and International Esports Federation (IESF) Chairman Colin Webster will host the 2019 4th Global Executive Eports Summit (GEES) from Aug. 29-31 at the Paradise Hotel in Haeundae. 

The World Esports Summit, held since 2016, aims to reach an agreement for the right direction of development of esports by sharing opinions and creating synergy effects for esports.

The Global Executive Eports Summit (GEES), which will mark its fourth anniversary this year, will be held in Busan, South Korea's esports mecca city, for the third year in a row, and top-level stakeholders from domestic and foreign esports related organizations will gather to communicate and share their knowledge. The International Esports Academic Seminar, which will also present the academic value and potential of e-sports, will be held simultaneously this year, following last year.

Colin Webster, president of the International Esports Federation (IESF), which organizes the Global Executive Eports Summit (GEES), said, "We look forward to bringing together leaders who are leading the rapidly growing esports industry, as well as new and emerging e-sports officials to discuss the development of esports at the Global Executive Eports Summit."
