15th Online Inter-school Provincial Championships - 14 February 2026

Dawnview High School of Germiston is currently the top seeded school for esports in South Africa.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) shall be holding its ever popular 15th Online Inter-school Provincial Championships on 14 February 2026.

An important feature of this championship, is that it is open to any learner, whether or not the school is affiliated or not, however, approval from the school is required. Such approval must come from an educator or competent school official.

Learners who are being homeschooled may also participate, but such homeschool clubs must be affiliated to MSSA as a private club.

However, for team events, it is required that all members of the team are all from the same school.

Players, will be able to play from any venue/s approved by the school.

MSSA's 15th Online Inter-school Provincial Championships, offers local players the opportunity to qualify for selection to the national squad and for the Protea Team that will attend international events should they meet the criteria. Such events may include events accredited by IESF, GEF, CAES, ACES, and SEF.

The championship shall be held on 14 February 2026. Entries must be submitted before midnight on 13 February 2026.

Players are to acquaint themselves with the rules apropos substitutes and loadshedding.

Tournament Structure:


As per the MSSA's rules, being:

  • If less than six teams, the championship shall be a Round Robin Championship
  • If 6 to 10 teams enter the championship there shall be four rounds as played to the Swiss System
  • If 11 or more teams enter the championship there shall be five rounds as played to the Swiss System

Eligibility:

  • Any learner currently registered for primary or secondary studies may enter.

Entry fee:

  • Entry is R50.00 per Registered Player.
  • Only fully-paid-up Registered Players may participate in this event.

Entries:

Medals:

Medals shall be awarded to the first three gamers for both men and women (per  province) in the following categories:
  • MALE: The top three places (1st, 2nd, and 3rd)).
  • FEMALE: The top three places (1st, 2nd, and 3rd))
Please note that the medals shall be awarded to the players at the next LAN championship in which such team/player enters and participates.

Colours:
  • School Provincial Colours: All Players that win all of their Matches at a Provincial Championship will earn School Provincial Colours. All Players who score within the top 50% in a specific Period at a any two (or more) Provincial Championships, and who also score within the top 50% at a National Championship in the same period and in the same year, will earn School Provincial Colours.
When and Where:
      • 14 February 2026
      • The first round will start at 10H00. Players shall be given 60 minutes to complete each round. 
      • Players must all be on-line at 9H00.
              The championship is accredited as being of the same status as a provincial championship. This means that the championship shall be used for the following:
              • The awarding of school provincial colours;
              • The awarding of medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for both men and women;
              • The ability to qualify for National Team Trials. 
              • As usual Trials shall be done at a LAN venue, and the team that can best represent South Africa shall then be selected.
              • All medals shall be awarded to the recipients at a MSSA LAN championships.

              Shout casting:
              • The MSSA shall decide who may shout-cast the games.
              • Anybody wishing to be appointed as a Shout-Caster must apply in writing to mindsportscorrespondence@gmail.com

              Sportsmanship Award - Northern Cape Online Esports Provincial Championships

              Irene Banda, of Sunnyridge Primary School in Germiston, is one of the up-and coming stars in South African esports.

              A sportsmanship award serves as a testament to the values of fairness, respect, and integrity in sports. It acknowledges athletes who exemplify these qualities and contributes to fostering a positive sporting environment conducive to character development, teamwork, and enjoyment for all involved.

              At every event MSSA selects the person who most embodies the concept of sportsmanship. At the end of the year, the Sportsperson of the Year is selected from those who have been selected at official MSSA events.

              The               Northern Cape Online Esports Provincial Championships held on 24 January 2026 was the first championship held in 2026 to deliver a winner of a Sportsmanship Award and a candidate for the end of year Sportsmanship of the Year Award.

              Irene Banda only started competing on a provincial and national championship level in 2025 where Irene won the 2025 Provincial School Online Championship for all provinces, and the 2025 South African National Championships to earn Gauteng Primary School Colours, South African Senior National Colours and South African Primary School National Colours.

              In the Northern Cape Online Esports Provincial Championships held on 24 January 2026 Irene convincingly won the female section for the Clash Royale esports title to win both Senior and Primary School Gauteng Provincial Colours. Irene won with both charm and grace, and at not time did she stop smiling....

              Nominations are needed for 2025 AGM.

              Colin Webster (President of Mind Sports South Africa) openly encourages younger Registered Players to stand for positions)

              Mind Sports South Africa              's elections are fast approaching. MSSA is the only South African national federation that allows an athlete to be elected onto its Board as well as allowing a fast, and direct, path for administrators while cutting out 'dead-men's shoes'.

              All elections are done on a staggered basis. The system of doing the elections on a staggered basis allows MSSA to have a greater degree of stability as the entire Management Board is not able to be elected at any one time which preserves MSSA's continuity and knowledge base.

              An interesting aspect of the 2025 Annual General Meeting is that there are 5 positions that are available for election on the Executive and Management Board. Where positions are vacant, the newly elected Board will co-opt Registered Players to the position. A co-opted Registered Player only serves out one year in the position in which he/she is co-opted and resigns prior to the General Meeting.

              As everyone already knows, the MSSA is a democratic organisation, where only decisions of the committee that are enforced, and never the will of any one individual.

              All athletes are reminded that only affiliated clubs may nominate players who are registered and fully-paid-up for positions on any of the committee.
              • A member club nominates the Registered Player on the prescribed form, and
              • The Nomination Form has been submitted to MSSA on or before 21 November 2025, and
              • The Registered Player is fully-paid-up for the 2025/2026 year as at the date of nomination, and
              • The club nominating the Registered Player has paid its affiliation fees for the 2025/2026 season on or before 21 November 2026.
              However it should be noted that only persons who meet the following criteria may be elected on to the Management Board:
              1. Have served a full term on the Management Board, or
              2. Have served a full term as Provincial Director, or
              3. Have served two full terms as Regional Director, or
              4. Have served two full terms on a Board of Control, or
              5. Have earned at least ten (10) Protea caps, or
              6. Have served three years on the club committee of which they are currently a member.
              7. Be resident in South Africa for at least 186 days of the Calendar Year. Should such terms of residency not be met, such Elected Member shall be automatically removed and such position be declared vacant, and
              8. Only persons who have completed a full term on the Management Board may stand for the position of President.
              The positions up for election are (3 year terms):
              1. Two Executive Officers
              2. Women's Desk
              3. Board Gaming Representative
              4. Legal Advisor
              5. National School's Director (This position must be held by an Educator)
              The following Provincial Directorships are also available (2 year terms):
              1. Eastern Cape
              2. Gauteng
              3. KwaZulu Natal
              4. Limpopo
              5. Mpumalanga
              6. Northern Cape
              7. North West
              8. Western Cape
              All the following 56 Regional Directorships are also available for election (1 year term).

              There is no doubt that the committee has worked well over the past number of years, and it will indeed be interesting to again see democracy at work.
