MSSA's 2019 Gauteng Provincial Championships is part of the process of selecting the 2018 Protea teams that will attend the various World Championships and participate in various test matches.

All gamers are reminded that MSSA's 2019 Gauteng Provincial Championships are an open championship. In other words any registered player is entitled to enter the championship – no matter where they live, or their category of membership.

MSSA's umpiring course - 2 March 2019.

One of the most important aspects of a well run championship is the consistency and standard of umpiring.

Umpiring affects every aspect of a championship, and since Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is highly cognisant of such, MSSA shall be holding a number of umpires' courses during 2019.

Such umpiring courses around the country shall ensure that umpires are certified and are fully aware of their duties and responsibilities in all the disciplines (Board gaming, Esports, Wargames).

It is important to also note that MSSA will only consider Registered Players who are certified as National Umpires for upward advancement apropos being recommended for training as an international referee by International Esports Federation (IESF).

Also, MSSA expects registered players who again intend to stand for team selection to 'put back', by becoming umpires. This way a culture of 'giving' is created, and a transference of knowledge is enabled.

The first such course shall be done as follows:

Date: 2 March 2019
Time: 9H00 - 18H00
Cost: R600.00 per Registered Player if not a National Squad member, R400.00 per Registered Player if a member of a National Squad.
Venue: Curro Durbanville, 1 Memento Drive, Sonstraal Heights, Durbanville, 7550
RSVP: 24 February 2019

The cost will include morning and afternoon tea, and lunch.

The course shall include:

* Ethics
* Background to MSSA's systems
* Roles of the different umpires
* Entry
* Basic rules to the games
* Pairings
* Data capturing of results
* How results are further used

At the end, a test will be given, and those that pass will be accredited as umpires.

Any Registered Player who is 18 or older may register for such course through their member club.

MSSA's 23rd Western Cape Board Gaming Championships shall be held at Curro Durbanville, 1 Memento Drive, Sonstraal Heights, Durbanville , on 23 and 24 March 2019.

The championships shall start on both days at 9H00. Players need to register at least 30 minutes before the start of play.

In keeping with Mind Sport South Africa's policies re development programmes, entries are free and gratis to registered players who are unable to afford to enter such championships should the member club formally request assistance. Such applications must be directed to the MSSA at: email: mindsportscorrespoondence@gmail.com

Entry fees are:              R34.00 for board gamers.

Only players who are registered with fully-paid-up members may participate.

Players are reminded that the majority choice of rules as at the closing date for entries shall be used.

Entry fees can be deposited directly into Mind Sports South Africa's account, held at ABSA Bank, account number, 90 4766 7676.

All entries must be entered onto the club's Google  Drive before or on 8 March 2019.

The following Medals may be awarded at MSSA's 2018 South African National LAN Championships:

• PREMIER: Medals shall be awarded to the first three players who are registered players.
• UNIVERSITY: Medals shall be awarded to the first three players who are currently registered at any officially recognised University, provided the players have not received any Premier Medals.
• SCHOLARS: Medals shall be awarded to the first three high school scholars, provided they have not received any Premier medals.
• WOMEN: Women will be awarded medals as per the same basis as above, that is in all three categories.

Colours and National Team Trials:

• Provincial Colours: All Players that win all of their Matches at a Provincial Championship will earn Provincial Colours. All Players who score within the top 50% in a specific Period at a Provincial Championship, and who also score within the top 50% at a National Championship in the same period and in the same year, will earn Provincial Colours.
• National Team Trials: All Players that score within the top 20% or top three places, whichever is greater, in a specific Period at a Provincial or National Championship will earn an invitation to National Team Trials. National Team Trials shall be held in the event that a National Team must be selected to represent South Africa when competing in such Period in an International Championship. 

The next provincial event is: MSSA's Online Student Championships that shall be held on 6 April 2019.

Wargames: MSSA's 23rd Western Cape Championships - 23 & 24 March 2019

The MSSA's 23rd Western Cape Championships shall be held at Curro Durbanville, 1 Memento Drive, Sonstraal Heights, Durbanville, on 23 and 24 March 2019.

In terms of the current regulations, any period may be played to more than one rule set if there are sufficient entries, and a player qualified to act as an umpire has volunteered to umpire such rule set.

The championships shall start on both days at 9H00. Players need to register at least 30 minutes before the start of play.

Please note that if there are not at least 10 players entered for a figure gaming period, then such period shall be played to four (4) rounds and not five (5).

Curro Durbanville joins the fold.

Without dout the Curro group of schools are forward thinking and endeavour to leave their mark on all aspects of education. Curro is the market leader in the provision of quality, parallel- and dual-medium independent school education in South Africa. Curro's goal is to develop responsible, independent and proud individuals, who will make a positive contribution to society. 

Thus it is with great pleasure that Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) welcomes Curro Durbanville into membership.

Curro Durbanville is situated in Sonstraal Heights (1 Memento Drive) and welcomes English and Afrikaans boys and girls from 3 months old up to Grade 12.  

There are already two other Curro schools affiliated to MSSA, namely, Curro Klerksdorp, and Curro Grantleigh.
Curro Klerksdorp in fact has already produced five members of the National Squad for the DotA 2 esports title.

There is no doubt that Curro Durbanville will have a long and fruitful relationship with MSSA.
