Saudah Bhaimia stands for Student Representative

If elected Saudah Bhamia will be the first female to hold the position of Student Representative.

South African National Morabaraba Champion, Saudah Bhaimia a student at University of Witwatersrand (Wits), is standing for the position of Student Representative.

The position of Student Representative was created at Mind Sports South Africa's (MSSA) 2021 Annual General Meeting (AGM). The creation of the position position takes into account the growing interest in esports in Universities, Colleges, and TVET's. 

Only a student who is a registered student of a South African tertiary institution may stand for the position. The person who is elected into the position will directly represent the interests and concerns of all South African students, Universities, Colleges, and TVETs.

This direct access to the Board allows students to be more involved in the decision making process as well as ensure that their concerns are addressed at the highest level possible without beauracratic interference.

Saudah Bhaimia is a perfect candidate for the position Having started her career while at Curro Klerksdorp, Saudah has earned the following colours:

  • North West High School Colours,
  • North West Provincial Colours. 
  • South African National High School Colours, and
  • South African National Colours.
  • Sportsperson of the Year Award (2018), and
  • Management Board Boardgamer of the Year Award winner (2019, 2020, and 2021)
Even while being a full time student at the University of the Witwatersrand, Saudah's commitment to all mind sports disciplines (board games, card games, esports, and wargames) remains unabated.

Saudah speaks out on SAfm!

 


Saudah Bhaimia (Curro Klerksdorp) is one of the most accomplished athletes in Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA). Saudah has, in her short gaming career, left an indelible mark on the South African gaming community having finished in the medals of every championship in which she has played, as follows:

  • 1st 2020 SA National Championships
  • 1st 2019 SA National Championships
  • 1st 2019 North West Championships
  • 1st 2018 SA National Championships
  • 2nd 2018 North West Championships
It should be noted that MSSA's 2020 North west championships was not held due to COVID-19. Due to Saudah's exceptional standard of play, Saudah has been awarded with the following awards awards: 

  • 2020 - SA National Federation Colours (Honours)
  • 2020 - Boardgamer of the Year
  • 2020 - Battle Honours - Morabaraba
  • 2019 - SA National Federation Colours (re-award)
  • 2019 - Battle Honours - Morabaraba
  • 2019 - North West Provincial Colours (re-award)
  • 2018 - SA National Federation Colours
  • 2018 - North West Provincial Colours
  • 2018 - Sportsmanship Trophy

Saudah takes SA Nationals for the third time in a row.

 


With South Africa held in the pestilential grip of COVID-19, Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) agreed to host the SA National Championships for Morabaraba on 12 December 2020 at a venue that could accommodate all entries and all the state's regulations.

Thus the venue for the MSSA's South African National Board Games Championships was held at Old Edwardian Society, 11 Ninth Avenue, Lower Houghton.

At such South African National Board Games Championships Saudah Bhaimia (Curro Klerksdorp) totally dominated the field for the third time in a row. Having won the 2018 and 2019 South African National Championships, Saudah went on to win her third consecutive national title, making her the first female gamer in South Africa to do so in the Morabaraba game.

Amanda Pakade (MSSA President) stated, "It is wonderful that MSSA has a player of the calibre of Saudah. Her dedication and determination put her in good stead for the rest of her life. It is a pleasure to have her in MSSA's ranks."

South African National Board Games Championships - 12 December 2020.


Mind Sports South Africa's  South African National Board Games Championships shall be held at Old Edwardian Society, 11 Ninth Avenue, Lower Houghton, on, 12 December 2020.

To take into account current COVID-19 Regulations at the date of announcement, the event will only allow 30 entries on a first-come-first served basis. No spectators shall be allowed and umpires shall enforce other regulations.

The event counts as a  qualifier for the 2021 National Team Trials.

In keeping with Mind Sport South Africa's policies re development programs, entries are free and gratis to registered players who are unable to afford to enter such championships should the member club formally request assistance. Such applications must be directed to the MSSA at: e-mail: mindsportscorrespondence@gmail.com

Entry fees are:              R100.00 for board gamers.

Only players who are registered with fully-paid-up members may participate.

Players are reminded that the majority choice of rules as at the closing date for entries shall be used.
All entries must be entered onto the club's Google  Drive before or on 30 November 2020. Clubs must use the entry form on Google Drive to enter their teams/players. The entry form can be found on https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_ERR6815uVjSMu4t5KkRxYqGJ_AA88kkz31qRgksASc/edit#gid=287696184. The entry form must be downloaded completed and e-mailed to mindsportscorrespondence@gmail.com.

The following Medals may be awarded at the Championship:
  • PREMIER: Medals shall be awarded to the first three players who are registered players.
  • SCHOLARS: Medals shall be awarded to the first three high school scholars, and to the first three primary school scholars, provided they have not received any Premier medals.
  • UNDER 24: Medals shall be awarded to the first three players who are under 24 years of age, provided the players have not received any Premier Medals.
  • WOMEN: Women will be awarded medals as per the same basis as above, that is in all three categories.
Colours and National Team Trials:
  • National Colours: All Players that win all of their Matches at a National Championship will earn National Colours.
  • Provincial Colours: All Players that win all of their Matches at a Provincial Championship will earn Provincial Colours. All Players who score within the top 50% in a specific Period at a Provincial Championship, and who also score within the top 50% at a National Championship in the same period and in the same year, will earn Provincial Colours.
  • National Team Trials: All Players that score within the top 20% or top three places, whichever is greater, in a specific Period at a Provincial or National Championship will earn an invitation to National Team Trials. National Team Trials shall be held in the event that a National Team must be selected to represent South Africa when competing in such Period in an International Championship.

MSSA's 24th NORTH WEST Championships - 24 & 25 August 2019

Board games, wargames, and esports are all on offer at MSSA's 2019 North West Championships.
Mind Sports South Africa's (MSSA) 24th NORTH WEST Championships  is one of the most popular championships on the calendar. Klerksdorp is just not that far away from major cities like Pretoria and Johannesburg which thus allows many Registered Players the ability to participate in another provincial championship in their preparations for the SA National  Championships..

Many of South Africa's top players who have represented South African Protea teams in international competition have taken advantage of the early championships in order to qualify for selection so that in the later championships the Registered Players can hone their skills to even higher levels. The general consensus is that in order for a Registered Player to do well in international competition, such player should play at least 30 games in provincial or national championships within a season.

MSSA is proud of its reputation of promoting youth in its national teams, and as a result, most of MSSA's teams that have represented South Africa have had a component of players that were learners who were still in High School.

Thus it should be noted that such Free State Championships not only counts towards players earning Provincial Colours, but also counts towards MSSA's selection process.

 All gamers are reminded that MSSA's NORTH WEST Championships are an open championship. In other words any registered player, who is currently a registered learner, is entitled to enter the championship – no matter where they live.

Saudah Bhaimia is awarded the Sportsmanship Award.

The Dorian Love Award was started back in 1987 and was designed to reward players of exceptional sportsmanship.

Only players who have received the Sportsmanship Award after a provincial championship are eligible to be considered for the Dorian Love Trophy.

It is from those eligible players that the Selection Committee then selects the recipient of the Dorian Love Trophy from the players who have won the award at such championship level.

Thus it is with delight that Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), upon aproval of the Annual General  Meeting (AGM) awards the Sponsorship Award to Saudah Bhaimia.

Curro Klerksdorp is a school that focuses on the individual learner. Its learners are taught life skills and values such as effective communication, a great work ethic, responsibility, honesty, accountability and many more. The school strives to uphold it company values of child friendliness, positive discipline, a Christian ethos and values, and creative thinking.   

 None better epitomizes Curro's ethos than Saudah Bhaimia.

 Ever helpful and friendly, Saudah Bhaimia shows the very best attributes of being a sportsperson, and despite being at the top of her game, Saudah always has time to assist other gamers.
