Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has released the current Premier club rankings.
When reviewing the current standings, which are the result of three (3) provincial championships, it is evident that MSSA's belief of promoting esports as an official sport at school level is paying dividends.
It was not long ago that major private clubs used to dominate the rankings, but now, it is clubs based at schools that dominated the rankings.
School clubs take the first four places with a university club coming in at 5th (NWU - Vaal) and ZAG Academy coming in at 6th place.
The schools oviously provide a perfect breeding ground for clubs having the resources, and manpower to create clubs that have depth in membership as well as able to cater for a number of game titles.
It is thus not strange at all that so many learners find their way into the official Protea Teams which represent South Africa overeas, and at home, in international competition.
With nine Premier Championships still to be played, it will be interesting to see if Oakhill can hold on to its lead to become the top ranked club in the country for 2022.
