Executive Meeting has been called.

Amanda Pakade, MSSA President, has called an Executive Committee Meeting for 31 May 2019.

In terms  of Mind Sports South Africa's constitution, MSSA's president is required to call two Executive Committee Meetings per annum.

The Executive Committee is just one of the checks-and-balances on the Management Board as such Executive Committee includes a delegate from every member club affiliated to, and in good standing with, Mind Sports South Africa.

It is at such Executive Committee Meetings that Regulations and Bye-laws may be amended and/or introduced.

Thus notice is given that MSSA shall be holding an Executive Committee meeting on 31 May 2019.

As such all member clubs are advised that should they have any motions that they want presented, such motions must be submitted to the General Secretary on or before 7 May 2019 on mindsportscorrespondence@gmail.com

Motions may be submitted on any aspect of the Reguations and Bye-laws, but they cannot be in conflict with MSSA's Constitution or any South African legislation.

With the massive changes that Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has effected to the way in which MSSA shall select its 2019 National Squad, it was obvious that the structure for enforcing such selection criteria would also have to change.

And change it did!

Instead of the Selectors falling under the jurisdiction of the Discipline Representatives, the Selection Committee now falls under the chairmanship of an Executive Officer. The Discipline Representatives too are no longer automatically appointed as the National Team Manager. Instead, the National Team Managers are now appointed by the Selection Committee and are answerable to such committee.

Thus the position of the Executive Officer in charge of the National Team is a vital one.

MSSA is confident that it has found the right man for the job.

MSSA's Management Board has just co-opted Garth Schoeman as such Executive Officer.

Garth is a long-time member has served MSSA as a past Vice-President (2005 - 2015), has represented South Africa in the Protea Team as an athlete (2007), has umpired numerous MSSA national and provincial championships, has umpired international test matches, and has previously served on the Selection Committee.

Garth's loyalty,  dedication,  and attention to detail will put him in good stead to the arduous role that he will have to perform.

It should, however be noted, that  when the Management Board co-opts an individual, such individual may only serve out the remainder  of the year  leading up to the Annual General Meeting.

Notwithstanding what was written in "New criteria for being elected onto MSSA's Management Board.", where there is a vacancy on MSSA's Management Board, the Management Board may co-opt any Registered Player of its own choosing to fill such vacancy.

However, it should be noted that such co-opted official cannot stay in office for the full three year term, but instead may only serve out the year leading up to the next Annual General Meeting. In this way, the Management Board is unable to fill itself with 'preferred' players and therefore protects the integrity not only of the Management Board, but of Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) itself.

MSSA, being the oldest and largest gaming organisation in Africa, has a proud tradition and reputation to uphold for itself and for its members.

Nevertheless, MSSA has two vacancies in its Executive Officer positions, being, Liaison, and for National Team. Both positions are vital for the good functioning of MSSA, and all Registered Players who are interested in being considered for these positions must forward their applications to mindsportscorrespondence@gmail.com on or before 31 December 2018.

Such application must include a curriculum vitae and a motivation as to why such applicant should hold such office.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is calling on all clubs to submit nominations, proposals to amend the Regulations, Byelaws, et cetera, for the Executive Committee Meeting that shall be held in October 2018. 

The Executive Committee consists of all members of the Management Board, a delegate representing such Student Association as recognised by Council, a delegate representing such Scholar's Association as recognised by Council and one nominated member from each affiliated member. 
 that is in good-standing.

Only clubs in good-standing may submit nominations, proposals to amend the Regulations, Byelaws, et cetera, to be considered at such meeting.

Nominations may include:

• For the position of Honorary Life Member
• For the position of Honorary Vice-President
• National Meritorious Service Award
• Provincial Meritorious Service Award

All members are thus encouraged to nominate deserving candidates.

The Executive Committee consists of all members of the Management Board, and one nominated member from each affiliated member.

Thus every member club has its opportunity to participate in the affairs of MSSA.

It should be noted that the Management Board is accountable to the Executive Committee, and that the authority of the Executive Committee is only second to that of MSSA's Council.

An agenda will be produced by 2 February 2018 and circulated to all member clubs, which shall be accompanied by a proxy form, so that each and every member club will be able to have its say.
