Can SAHETI match Rondebosch Boys' record?

SAHETI dominated the game of CounterStrike:: GO in the 2017 On-line Inter-school Provincial Championships.

In 2015 and 2016, Rondebosch Boys' High School dominated MSSA's Online Esports School Provincial Championships for the CounterStrike: GO title, and is the only school to have won the championship more than once. 

The Rondebosch Boys team went on to produce two members of the 2016 Protea Esports Team that attended IESF's 8th World Championships - Jakarta, namely Jessie Joubert and Simon Zandstra.

However, in 2017,there was  a dramatic changing of the guard. Rondebosch did not feature, and SAHETI, Parklands College and Cedar House grabbed the top three positions.

The question is now whether SAHETI can maintain their winning form.

Like any other sport, teams need to have depth in terms of players in order to maintain their standards.

MSSA's Online Schools Provincial Championships delivered some pretty exciting results.

Every single game played in a MSSA Championship is used to determine the rankings for the 2017 season.

Parklands again takes the DotA 2 title.

Parklands' DotA 2 team

In 2015 Parklands won MSSA's 5th Online Schools Provincial Championships for the DotA 2 title. Then in 2016, Parklands was nudged into second place by Maritzburg College.

However, the 2017 edition of MSSA's Online Schools Provincial Championships saw Parklands again take centre stage as the school again took prime place upon the podium.

Parklands lead from start to finish, and only lost one game in the five-round championship. Such game was lost to Westville Boys' High School.

Nevertheless, Parklands had by the time of such  loss secured enough points to secure the title.

SAHETI has a proud record in eSports. Having developed Gabriella Isaacs who served in MSSA's 2012 Protea eSports Team at IeSF's 4th World Championships - Cheonan, the school has consistently maintained a high standard.

Thus at MSSA's 7th Online School Provincial Championships played on 11 February 2017, SAHETI again entered teams of high quality into the CounterStrike: GO title.

CounterStrike: GO remains the most popular title within MSSA's stable of titles as played at school championship level.

Going into the championships as the third seed, the SAHETI team (appropriately named 'Spartans A') knew that they had a hard day ahead of themselves. There too was a great deal of uncertainty as 10 new teams also entered the event.

The first two games progressed smoothly, with the 'Spartans A' taking the games 16 - 1, and 16 - 5.

However, in the third round, the 'Spartans A' faced their old adversaries, and 2nd seed, Parklands College. The contest between the two ended in a draw, which left the result of the championship uncertain.

As usual, the championship also produced a few upsets. Cedar House had quietly crept up, and by the end of the 4th round were just 1 point behind 'Spartans A'.
The Battle of Thermopylae was like a Sunday picnic compared to the epic proportions of the clash between the 'Spartans A' and Cedar House. 
The game would ultimately decide on which team would be the ultimate victor in the CounterStrike: GO title.

It was a close match (16 - 11), but 'Spartans A' (of SAHETI) wrested the laurels from Cedar House.

2016 SA Schools hosted by Parklands.

With MSSA's Online School Provincial Championships to be played on 11 February 2017, MSSA has just released the rankings for such.

Of course there is still time for schools which have not registered to both register and enter.

Already six new schools have indicated that they will  be affiliating to MSSA in 2017.

School clubs are essential to the growth of esports in South Africa, as such clubs do not come in with only one team, but multiple teams.

With the huge influx of schools entering MSSA in 2017, it  will  be interesting to see is Parklands can hold onto their number 1 ranking.

Parktown College did a splendid job of hosting MSSA's 2016 SA School Championships, and through active participation have taken first place on the ranking table.
