MSSA's blog page is ranked 9th in South Africa!

Colin Webster, President of MSSA, initiated the creation of the blog page as a tool to highlight the achievements of MSSA's athletes.

MSSA started the blog page in August 2013, and since then the numbers have climbed from a few readers a day to a staggering record of 33,000 readers on a single day with readership climbing to over 80,000 per month.

Mind Sports South Africa's (MSSA) blog carries articles pertinent to competitive gaming in all its disciplines in South Africa being historical figure games (also known as wargames), Board games (such as Backgammon, Diplomacy, Checkers, Draughts, Morabaraba, Sport Stacking, etc), Card Gaming, Robotics, Phygital Gaming, and eSports (whether they are played on ‘cell phones, Sony® PSP’s, personal computers or similar). 

Of course it has taken dedication, consistency and accurate reporting of events to attract such numbers.

According to FeedSpot, Mind Sports South Africa's blog, Esports and other Games, is ranked ninth out of 100 listed blogs. There is no surprise to those at the top, but it is surprising that many of mainstream media are listed below MSSA's blog. Even a sport like Cricket, cant seem to compete with esports...

When looking at blog pages for esports on a worldwide basis, MSSA's blog page ranks 21st  out of 66.

Because the blog is run by MSSA, any and all member clubs are able to have articles published on the blog.

Thus all member clubs are invited to send in articles for the blog page, and are welcome to highlight their achievements, sponsorships, strategies, events, and/or top players.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the efforts of the Board Members who run the blog page on a voluntary basis.

High School rankings out for Paladins.

Monument Park High School is the top ranked school for the 'Paladins' esports title.
With Fortnite having an age restriction of 16, the game was dropped for use in schools by Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) as unsuitable for learners.

The game of Fortnite was replaced by the exciting esports title of Paladins. The game is as competitive and is far more age appropriate as it only has an age restriction of 12.

There is no doubt that those promoting esports must always take cognisance of the mental and physical welfare of those playing in their events.

Having a lower age restriction, the esports title allows schools to add greater depth to their teams by starting team members off at an earlier age and then coach them over a number of years to vastly improve the standard of play.

Thus with Paladins only having been played as a competitive title in South Africa in 2019, it is most gratifying to see how well teams and schools have taken to the title.

No school team has taken to the title as well as that of team 'Dragon Gaming' of Monument Park High School.

The team has won both Western Cape Provincial Championships as well as MSSA's SA National Schools' Championships.

Having also won MSSA's 9th Online Inter-School Championships, team 'Dragon Gaming' has taken a well deserved lead in the official national rankings.

Oakhill School leads the schools' Dota 2 esports rankings.

Oakhill School's 'Team Theory' in action.
It is not surprising that Oakhill School leads the schools' Dota 2 esports rankings as the team has shown excellent skill and dedication to the sport.  Yet, none of it would have been for the tireless enthusiasm of the Educator-in-Charge, Diana Barnard.

Through team-work Oakhill School's 'Team Theory' has done so well that the members of the team were awarded National Federation Colours when they were all selected to become members of the National Squad for the DotA 2 esports period.

There is no doubt that Oakhill School's Esports teams will continue to go from strength-to-strength.

As esports become further rooted as a fully accredited sport, Oakhill will have established itself as a leader in the field.
