MSSA's blog page is ranked 9th in South Africa!

Colin Webster, President of MSSA, initiated the creation of the blog page as a tool to highlight the achievements of MSSA's athletes.

MSSA started the blog page in August 2013, and since then the numbers have climbed from a few readers a day to a staggering record of 33,000 readers on a single day with readership climbing to over 80,000 per month.

Mind Sports South Africa's (MSSA) blog carries articles pertinent to competitive gaming in all its disciplines in South Africa being historical figure games (also known as wargames), Board games (such as Backgammon, Diplomacy, Checkers, Draughts, Morabaraba, Sport Stacking, etc), Card Gaming, Robotics, Phygital Gaming, and eSports (whether they are played on ‘cell phones, Sony® PSP’s, personal computers or similar). 

Of course it has taken dedication, consistency and accurate reporting of events to attract such numbers.

According to FeedSpot, Mind Sports South Africa's blog, Esports and other Games, is ranked ninth out of 100 listed blogs. There is no surprise to those at the top, but it is surprising that many of mainstream media are listed below MSSA's blog. Even a sport like Cricket, cant seem to compete with esports...

Because the blog is run by MSSA, any and all member clubs are able to have articles published on the blog.

Thus all member clubs are invited to send in articles for the blog page, and are welcome to highlight their achievements, sponsorships, strategies, events, and/or top players.

Of course, none of this would be possible without the efforts of the Board Members who run the blog page on a voluntary basis.

With more than over one million readers.

MSSA is dedicated to promoting all its member clubs.

The number of readers of Mind Sports South Africa's (MSSA) blog page has consistently increased since Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) began operating such blog in August 2013.

In June 2023 alone the blog earned 56,559 readers.

Thus it is no surprise that MSSA's blog page has now had over 1,000,000 readers.

MSSA's primary objective is to develop and promote mind sports, including traditional board games and card games, as recognized competitive sports in South Africa. The organization organizes and oversees national championships, selects national teams for international competitions, and works towards the inclusion of mind sports in school curricula.

Mind Sports South Africa's (MSSA) blog carries articles pertinent to competitive gaming in South Africa from proto-computer gaming all the way through to the most modern. 

Of course it has taken dedication, consistency and accurate reporting of events to attract such numbers.

Because the blog is run by MSSA, any and all members are able to have articles published on the blog.

There is no better, or easier way, of advertising your club.

Get your club's news out.

 

All clubs involved in the various mind sports catered by Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) have always battled to find consistent coverage of their activities. This is just one of the manty reasons that MSSA has its blog page.

By consistently providing up-to-date news and information about Checkers, Draughts, Esports, Morabaraba, and Wargames, the number of readers of MSSA's blog page has steadily increased since Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) began operating such blog.

MSSA started the blog page in August 2013, and since then the numbers have climbed from a few readers a day to a over 10,000 a month.

There even has been as much as 33,000 readers on a single day.

An opportunity for all member clubs.

Mind Sports South Africa is the Founding Partner of EsportAfrica.TV

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has always aggressively promoted itself and its member clubs in the media.

As a result, MSSA has had many thousands of articles published in the mainstream media about itself, its members clubs and, of course, its athletes.

Media houses like Media 24, IOL, MyComlink, Caxton, Newseveryday.co.za, and MyComlink give continuous coverage to Mind Sports South Africa and its members.

MSSA too started its own blog page in August 2013, and since then the numbers have climbed to having 658,991 readers.

However, there is a new stunning PartnerMedia development. In partnership with (a division of Media 24), EsportsAfrica.TV has been founded. EsportsAfrica.TV is designed to be the home of African Esport Content. Serving as a consolidated platform for all esports related content to better reach audiences and media.

 As a benefit to all MSSA members, member clubs may have their content placed on this exciting new platform. For the full criteria that a member needs to follow, please write to mindsportscorrespondence@gmail.com.

MSSA benefits all member clubs.


In 2017 MSSA partnered win TULUNTULU order to create a 24/7 channel on Tuluntulu. Together with MSSA's blog page ' Esports, and other games' the channel on Tuluntulu helps give member clubs a massive reach.

The purpose of both the blog page and the Tuluntulu Channel is to help all member clubs with creating their content and getting such content out to member clubs, registered players, and members of the larger gaming society.
As long as content from member clubs is in line with MSSA criteria, all such content shall be published.

Members are therefore invited to submit content so that every club may benefit in this exciting endeavour.

All member clubs are also entitled to advertise their events, make press releases, and other annoucements on all MSSA's other social media, being:
  • Twitter - @mindsportssa
  • Instagram - mindsportssouthafrica
  • as well as the other Facebook group pages.

Requirements for receiving MSSA colours.


Recently bloggers not associated to MSSA have decided to publish articles on how MSSA awards colours.

There seems to be a fair amount of misunderstandings in this regard.

So, as to avoid any confusion in the future, the requirements for the award of colours.

However, before I begin, it should be remembered that each national federation creates its own criteria. Such criteria is  either placed in the constitution and/or regulations of such body. Thus the way that each federation awards colours may differ slightly from each other, but the principle remains the same, to encourage, promote, and reward excellence.

Regional Colours:

Regional Colours are awarded to:
  • Persons selected by MSSA to represent the Region in which he/she is ordinarily resident in a team, or
  • Persons who have played in and won all of his/her games in such Regional Championship, or
  • Persons who have finished in the top three if an individual event in such Regional Championship, or
  • Persons who have finished in first place if a team event in such Regional Championship, the winner of each and every official Regional Championship. 
Even a member of a club not affiliated to Mind Sports South Africa may qualify for such colours if having won the event.
Readers should too note that such colours are awarded to the player based on where such player is ordinarily resident.

It should be noted that South Africa has 56 regions, and MSSA is determined to establish regional championships in all of them.

 School Provincial Colours:

 School Provincial Colours are awarded to:
  • Persons who have been selected by MSSA to represent the Province in which he/she is ordinarily resident in a team, or
  • Persons who have won all games played at a Provincial Championship, or
  • Persons who have played in Nationals and one Provincial School Championships (in the same period) and ended in the top 50% of scholars competing, and/or
  • Persons who have played in at least two official Provincial School Championships (in the same period) and ended in the top 50% of scholars competing.

It should be noted that only Registered Players affiliated to a club affiliated to Mind Sports South Africa may qualify for such colours.

Readers should too note that such colours are awarded to the player based on where such player is ordinarily resident.

 Student Provincial Championships:

Student Provincial Championships are awarded to:
  • Has been selected by MSSA to represent the Province in which he/she is ordinarily resident in a team, or
  • Persons who have won all games played at a Provincial Championship, or
  • Persons who have played in Nationals and one "Premier" Provincial Championships (in the same period) and ended in the top 50% of students competing, and/or
  • Persons who have played in at least two official "Premier" Provincial Championships (in the same period) and ended in the top 50% of students competing.
It should be noted that only Registered Players affiliated to a club affiliated to Mind Sports South Africa may qualify for such colours.
Readers should too note that such colours are awarded to the player based on where such player is ordinarily resident.



Provincial Colours:

To earn Provincial Colours, a player needs to:
  • Have been selected by MSSA to represent the Province in which he/she is ordinarily resident in a team, or
  • Have won all games played at a Provincial Championship, or
  • Has played in Nationals and ended in the top 50%, and ended in the top 50% in such Provincial Championships in the same year.
It should be noted that only Registered Players affiliated to a club affiliated to Mind Sports South Africa may qualify for such colours.
Readers should too note that such colours are awarded to the player based on where such player is ordinarily resident.

National Federation Colours - Junior:

To earn Junior National Federation Colours, a player needs to:
  • Be selected to represent MSSA, or 
  • have won all his/her games at the S A National Championships or SA School Championships..
It should be noted that only Registered Players affiliated to a club affiliated to Mind Sports South Africa may qualify for such colours.

National Federation Colours - Senior:

To earn Senior National Federation Colours, a player needs to:
  • Be selected to represent MSSA, or 
  • has won all his/her games at the S A National Championships.
It should be noted that only Registered Players affiliated to a club affiliated to Mind Sports South Africa may qualify for such colours.

Protea Colours:

To earn Prrotea Colours, a player needs to:
  • Be selected to represent MSSA in an international match and play in such match if the match is played within South Africa. or
  • Be selected to represent MSSA in an international match played outside South Africa.
