Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) shall hold its annual On-line Inter-school Provincial Championships on 9 February 2019. 2019 will see the championship being held for its consecutive 8th year. The championship is tribute to MSSA's commitment to growing esports as a true sport at school level as well as proof of the success of such programme.

The championship in 2018 involved more schools than ever before. The schools represented seven provinces, and many of the top private and public schools participated.

Every year more-and more schools affiliate to MSSA, and many predict that within the next four years, the school online championship shall involve more schools than any other sport.

The Online Schools Championships is the breeding ground for the National Protea Teams, and the schools' championships allows athletes to qualify for the selection process. It should be noted that only officially accredited MSSA events allow athletes to qualify for the selection process.

MSSA believes that the Online School Championships remains an important foundation phase to the development of esports as a whole. MSSA is too of the opinion that the winning winning teams and players will go on to rattle the 'cages' and successfully challenge the 'status quo' of the senior teams which will ultimately provide the competition needed for South African gaming to improve upon its average standard.
