Sponsorship works.

Back: Francois Cronje (Coach),
Front: Dylan Smyth, Charl Malan, Joshua Poupard (Captain), Darius Botha, Jarred Poupard,
MSSA's 2018 National Team Trials saw more participants than ever before.

Empangeni High School’s (EHS) Esport League of Legends team was one of the many teams that participated in such national trials on the 3rd of June. The team performed admirably exhibiting great esprit de corps and sportsmanship.

At
MSSA's 2018 National Team Trials each of the players received a gold medal for the online championship that took place on 21 April 2018 of this year where the team was placed first in the school category.

However, without their sponsors; Neotek, Kloppers Inc - Richards Bay and Empangeni, and Zululand Observer, EHS's League of Legends esports team, accompanied by coaches, would have battled to attend MSSA's 2018 National Team Trials. EHS's sponsors are thus creating a legacy among the young team in helping the team develop and grow.

Democracy in action.

Morizane Boyes - President of Mind Sports South Africa
Without a doubt, Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is one of the most democratic institutions in South Africa.

This is how it should be as it is only through such process that all the views and opinions of all the members may be openly expressed.

On the Management Board, every member has a single vote, with only the chairperson having a casting vote should the vote be tied.

So, while there is no hierarchy, different positions do have different roles, duties and responsibilities.

As such, no one person can dominate the committee, no-one person is able to force through a decision, and no one person can block any decision from coming into being if it is in compliance with MSSA's constitution.

In other words all decisions are purely based on majority vote. If the majority vote 'Aye', then 'Aye' it is, and the rest of the board undertakes to abide by the decision.

Thus it is vital for every member club to fully participate in the Annual General Meeting held in December of every year whereat elections for the various positions are held.

Notifications are sent out in October of every year to remind member clubs to submit both motions and nominations. 2018 will be no different!

2018 National Team Trials for Esports

Paul Roos Gimnasium in action at MSSA's 2018 National Team Trials - Vereeniging.
The 2nd and 3rd of June 2018 saw esports athletes descend upon Vereeniging in droves. With athletes coming from Eastern Cape, Free State, Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West, and Western Cape, Vereeniging Gimnasium hosted the biggest esports event ever to be held in the city of Vereeniging.

More than 20 clubs were represented, and there is every expectation that the 2018/2019 National Team will be the strongest National team ever selected.

Vereeniging Gimnasium did it well, the school provide a wonderful venue and met all the needs as laid down by SSA for the selection process.

The National Team Trials (NTT) saw an increase in participation with many of the teams having received generous sponsorships from companies inn order to attend such trials. Clubs like Helpmekaar, Valhalla, Paul Roos Gimnasium, Empangeni High School, Goon Squad, Southern5,  and Good Gaming (to mention some) all received such sponsorships.

After the athletes parted, the Selectors remained in discussion, until  they too left the venue to wend their way home.

The deliberations will  continue until the various squads are selected.

Once the squads  are selected, the teams shall be drawn from the squads to play in the various competitions and test matches.

White Rabbit Gaming affiliates to Mind Sports South Africa.

Alwyn “SwiTch” Venter - founder of White Rabbit Gaming (WRG).
With the latest addition to Mind Sports South Africa, MSSA's membership now stands at 103 member clubs.

The majority of member clubs have memberships that would impress any sporting code and could consider themselves to be true 'multi gaming organisations' (MGO's).

Thus, the growth now extends into most of South Africa's provinces proving again that the MSSA has the largest 'footprint' in South Africa.

MSSA is now happy to see the return of an old member, White Rabbit Gaming, to make MSSA become even larger than what it was before.

White Rabbit Gaming is a club which is run by the same people who run the company of the same name. Both the club and the company values and missions are grounded in growing esports in South Africa as well as promoting players locally and internationally.

The brand was founded in 2010 by Alwyn “SwiTch” Venter who obtained his provincial colors in 2014. The club has a heart for the community and a vision of growing esports and it’s participants in South Africa with the aim of competing abroad with the world’s best players.

The brand currently has professional teams for CS:GO, Dota 2, Call of Duty, Overwatch and League of Legends with an entire community of over 300 casual gamers.

MSSA therefore welcome White Rabbit Gami
ng back into the fold, and trusts that the club will have a long and fruitful association with MSSA.
