Huge excitement from schools for MSSA's 2019 School Online and LAN Championships.

The entire official South African National Squad for the DotA 2 esports title consists of learners from Curro Klerksdorp and Oaklands School.

In 2010 Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) initiated its online school leagues as well as its National Championships for Schools in esports.

Since 2010, many a learner has thus been able to earn Provincial and National Colours for various esports titles.

Mind Sports South Africa is already South Africa's largest membership based organisation for gaming and is the only organisation that since 2005 regularly sends teams overseas to represent South Africa.

It is through such official leagues and championships that a number of learners have also been able to qualify for MSSA's annual National Team Trials at which players are selected for South Africa's Protea Esports Teams.

It is therefore not surprisinng then to see that almost every year that the Protea Team is selected, there are always learners who are able to make the grade as such and be selected.

Thus with Mind Sports South Africa's school National Championships going into their 10th consecutive year, MSSA is experiencing huge interest from schools that already, and that also wish to, participate in such official leagues and championships.

MSSA's Online Esports School Provincial Championships - 10 February 2018

Learners in action.

MSSA is proud to announce that it will once again hold its Annual School Provincial On-line Championships on 10 February 2018.

Since the last notification, the Management Board noticed an egregious oversight in that HearthStone had not been included. The Board swung into action, and by following proper procedure have now included HearthStone into all school events.

The championship may be used by gamers to qualify for eligibility to compete in the National Team Trials (NTT) should the MSSA need to choose a team for any of the titles played in such championships.

The MSSA School Online Championships has become South Africa's largest official online championship. It is an event that lasts from 10H00 until 18H00 and has proved itself to be a most enjoyable event.

Tournament Structure:

As per the MSSA's rules, being:

• If less than six players, the championship shall be a Round Robin Championship
• If 6 to 10 players the championship shall be four rounds as played to the Swiss System
• If 11 to 30 players the championship shall be five rounds as played to the Swiss System

Eligibility:

• Any player/team who is a Registered Player affiliated to a school club affiliated to MSSA may enter.

Entry fee:

• Entry is free to all full-paid-up Registered Players.
• Only fully-paid-up Registered Players may participate in this event.

Entry date:

• Entries need to be submitted by no later than Wednesday, 7 February 2018.

Registration:

• To register, the Educator-in-charge must complete the Google Drive document.

Medals:

Medals shall be awarded to the first three gamers for both men and women in the following categories:

• MEN: The top three places (1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd).
• WOMEN: The top three places (1^st, 2^nd, and 3^rd).

Colours:

• School Provincial Colours: All Players that win all of their Matches at a Provincial Championship will earn School Provincial Colours. All Players who score within the top 50% in a specific Period at a any two (or more) Provincial Championships, and who also score within the top 50% at a National Championship in the same period and in the same year, will earn School Provincial Colours.

When and Where:

• 10 February 2018
• The first round will start at 10H00. Players shall be given 60 minutes to complete each round. 
• Players must all be on-line at 9H00.

The championship is accredited as being of the same status as a provincial championship. This means that the championship shall be used for the following:

• The awarding of school provincial colours;
• The awarding of medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for both men and women;
• The ability to qualify for National Team Trials. 

As usual Trials shall be done at a LAN venue, and the team that can best represent South Africa shall then be selected.

Shout casting:

• The MSSA shall decide who may shout-cast the games.
• Anybody wishing to be appointed as a Shout-Caster must apply in writing to mindsportssa@iafrica.com

MSSA's continued growth.

MSSA - looking after a variety of disciplines and games.

Currently, there are over eighty-eight (88) clubs affiliated to Mind Sports South Africa.

South Africa’s oldest, and largest membership based, gaming organization continues to grow. With many of the member clubs having more than one team, MSSA is now able to deliver more than ever before.

The growth of structured clubs leads to a far more sustainable sport. In the past, teams were created by interested individuals, and when such individuals lost interest, ‘fell’ out with their players, or found that running a team was not as profitable as they thought, such individuals would move on to more lucrative endeavours.

Clubs provide a legal framework for a democratic process in which there can be a process of elections wherein the intellectual property of the various teams and the resources earned over the years can be legally transferred to the new administrators.

It is through the legal club structure that clubs can access National Lottery Funding.

Such funding is vital to anyone who wishes to grow and develop gaming, whether it be, board gaming, card gaming, esports, wargames, or robotics.

National League of Legends Ladder.

MSSA's dynamic 2017 BOO! Protea League of Legends team.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), South Africa's largest membership based gaming organisation has just released its latest ladder rankings for the League of Legends esports titles.

The ladder has shown growth from year-to-year and is testament to the growth of the game of League of Legends, and the enthusiasm to the true competitors who wish to represent South Africa at IESF's World Championships.

Players have represented South Africa in the League of Legends esports title at no less than four world championships, being Bucharest (2013), Seoul (2015), Jakarta (2016), and Busan (2017).

If IESF announces that League of Legends will be played at its 10th World Championships - Kaohsiung (Chinese Taipei), no doubt a South African team will also be present there.

SA's largest gaming body has just become bigger.

There is not a month that goes past when Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) does not accept new clubs into membership.

With MSSA having been founded back in 1985 by the Transvaal Wargames Association, the Eastern Transvaal Wargames Association and the Natal Wargames Association, MSSA has put many 'miles' under its belt to become the largest member based organisation for gaming in South Africa.

MSSA's first esport event was held in 1999, being the Gauteng StarCraft Championships of the same year.

MSSA's membership now consists of over 80 member clubs of which there are 56 official school clubs. The majority of member clubs have memberships that would impress any sporting code and could consider themselves to be true 'multi gaming organisationns' (MGO's).

There are even member clubs with memberships in excess of 300 players.

Thus, the growth now extends into most of South Africa's provinces proving again that the MSSA has the largest 'footprint' in South Africa.

Thus with MSSA accepting Vereeniging Gimnasium into membership, MSSA has become even larger than what it was before.
