Do you want to be a Regional Director?

It is the Regional Directors that select Regional Teams and organise Inter-Regional Events.

South Africa is divided into provinces, and below that into Regions (which may consist of one or more municipalities).

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) conforms to all such demarcations.

Members need to be aware that there are criteria that need to be fulfilled in order to stand  for a position on Mind Sports South Africa's (MSSA's) Board. The criteria ensure that there is continuity on the Board as well as that there is a greater understanding of the culture within MSSA, and an understanding of the issues surrounding the administration of MSSA.

Thus MSSA holds, National, Provincial, and Regional Championships in order to ensure it has an effective footprint.

To do so, MSSA makes provision for Regional Directors to oversee and/or run regional events.

Regional Directors only have a one-year term and are accountable directly to the Management Board.

The roles and duties of the Regional Directors are:

• The Tournament Director for MSSA's regional championships, 
• The Selector of the Regional Teams, and
• The manager for the Regional Teams.

There are a staggering 52 positions available for the position of Regional Director.

The term of office shall be from being co-opted until the 2024 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

However it should be noted that only athletes who meet the following criteria may be elected:

• The nomination of the Registered Player has been submitted, by the member club to which the individual is affiliated, to MSSA on or before 26 April 2024, and
• A Letter of Undertaking has been submitted by the nominee, and
• The Registered Player is fully-paid-up for the 2023/2024 year as at the date of nomination, and
• The club nominating the Registered Player has paid its affiliation fees for the 2023/2024 season.

Please note that only Registered Players may stand for the position in the province and/or region in which they live.

Provincial and Regional Directors are needed.

Members are aware that there are criteria that need to be fulfilled in order to stand  for a position on Mid Sports South Africa's (MSSA's) Board. The criteria ensure that there is continuity on the Board as well as that there is a greater understanding of the culture within MSSA, and an understanding of the issues surrounding the administration of MSSA.

However, it would b remiss, if not totally negligent, of MSSA to not provide an upward path to those who wish to eventually serve on MSSA's Board.

One such path, is for Registered Players to serve as a Provincial or Regional Director.

Their are nine Provincial Directorships available, and a staggering 52 positions available for the position of Regional Director..

While Provincial Directors are elected in for two year terms, Regional Directors only have a one-year term and are accountable directly to the Management Board.

The term of office shall be from the day of election until the 2020 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

However it should be noted that only athletes who meet the following criteria may be elected:

• A member club has nominated the Registered Player on the prescribed form, and
• The Nomination Form has been submitted to MSSA on or before 1 November 2020, and
• A Letter of Undertaking has been submitted by the nominee, and
• The Registered Player is fully-paid-up for the 2020/2021 year as at the date of nomination, and
• The club nominating the Registered Player has paid its affiliation fees for the 2020/2021 season on or before 1 November 2020.

Please note that only Registered Players may stand for the position in the province and/or region in which they live.

Being part of the process.

People who have served MSSA as umpires in the past: Glenn Andrew, Nick Holden, and Clint O'Shea.

MSSA as an association of members, is best described as a vehicle where all  the participants have a voice in where it is headed.

Thus no member is ever left behind. However, it must be noted that while not every member's voice will be acted upon, ever voice will be heard, and dissenting voices are often taken into account to make policies better.

It is therefore important to note that the office-bearers are thus only there to enact the wishes of the members.

In fact any Registered Player is able to stand for any position.

As such MSSA has a longevity that no private company would ever have as MSSA is driven by people with passion and love of the game rather than just mercantile interests and a desire to make monetary profit.

Thus the following positions are available for any Registered Player who wishes to stand:

Province

Eastern Cape Provincial Director

Gauteng Provincial Director

KwaZulu Natal Provincial Director

Mpumalanga Provincial Director

Northern Cape Provincial Director

North West Provincial Director

Please note that only Registered Players may stand for the position in the province in which they live.

Closing dates for nominations is 15 January 2018.

Time to get your nominations in - deadline 1 November 2016

As you will  no doubt notice, MSSA has publicised the positions since March 2016 so that everybody is aware of such.
Any full-paid-up Registered Player is able to stand for any position as long as a member club nominates such player,  and another member club seconds such nomination.

There is no doubt that the 2016 MSSA Annual General Meeting to be held on 4 December 2016 will be an exciting affair.

Not only will there be some important proposed changes to the Constitution apropos ensuring gender equity, but a number of the positions on the Management Board will be up for grabs.

The positions up for  election are:

1. President
2. 1st  Vice-President (in charge  of development)
3. 2nd vice-president (in charge of umpiring)
4. Board gaming representative
5. Card gaming representative
6. eSports representative
7. National Schools Director
8. Women's desk
9. Legal adviser
10. Representative for gamers who are differently abled
11. General Secretary

Positions not eligible for election in 2016 are:

1. 3rd Vice President (in charge of events)
2. Figure gaming representative
3. Player's representative

Thus the 2016 elections will be more than interesting.
Positions for all Regional and provincial Directors also become available.

It should be noted that no person may be elected into more than one position.

Never before have so many positions become available at the same time.

There is no doubt that the committee has worked well over  the past number of years, and it will indeed be interesting to again see democracy at work.

As it can be  seen from the above, MSSA does not hold truck with 'succession plans', but instead trusts entirely on its membership applying its mind and electing the right people to further promote gaming in South Africa.

Who will go, and who will stay, that is indeed the question.
