MARINESCU RE-ELECTED AS VICE-PRESIDENT

Vlad Marinescu is IESF’s dynamic Vice-President.

Vlad Marinescu was co-opted onto IESF’s Board in early 2019 due to the sudden resignation of Silviu Stroie.

Vlad made such a mark through his dynamic approach to problem-solving and pure dedication to the tasks at hand that IESF’s OGM overwhelmingly voted him onto the Board for a full term.

With an impressive pedigree in both sports, and esports administration, Vlad Marinescu brings a wealth of expertise and experience to the oldest and largest esports organization in the world. 

Even though IESF was founded in 2008, there is much that IESF can learn from Vlad who served in a number of positions in the International Judo Federation, General Director of SportAccord (now GAISF), and is currently the President of the United Esports Federation.

Vlad Marinescu said “I am honoured to be entrusted by the IESF board with the appointment to the Vice President position. I wholeheartedly believe that strong collaboration and exchange needs to exist between traditional sport and Esports to ensure sharing of values, practices and experience with the scope of educating the youth for a better tomorrow.”

As Vice-President, Vlad Marinescu has the following portfolios:

• World Championships,
• Ex-officio on LOC’s for IESF events, and
• To act in the President’s stead should the President be absent.

IESF President, Colin Webster is grateful that the will of the membership, as expressed at the Ordinary General Meeting, had chosen wisely, and that through Vlad’s competencies IESF shall continue to achieve its ambitions.

IESF to elect a new president.

International Esports Federation (IESF) shall be electing a new President at its Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) to be held on 9 November 2018 in Koahsuing City, Chinese Taipei.

IESF's Ordinary General Meeting coincides with its 10th World Championships and will no doubt be attended by the Presidents of all its member National Federations.

There are only three individuals that currently qualify for election. The three are Silviu Stroei (Romania), Constantine Surkot (Russia), and Colin Webster (South Africa).

All three individuals have had an immeasurable impact on esports in their own nations as well as within IESF, and it will indeed be interesting to see who the membership chooses to chair the organisation that is leading esports forward as a fully accredited sport.

The missive sent out by IESF, reads as follows:

"Referring with the upcoming Ordinary General Meeting to be held on November 9^th, Kaohsiung

Members are reminded that at such Ordinary General Meeting, IESF shall elect a new President to serve out the remaining term.

 Members are Notified of Article 31 of International Esports Federation's Statutes, which provides that:

•  Any nomination of a candidate for election as President of International Esports Federation shall be nominated by the Full Member to which he/she is affiliated and in good-standing, and 
• has already completed a full term of office in IESF for which they were elected, and 
• has been recommended by at least one-third of Members, and/or 
• ecommended by a majority of the Board members, and 
• shall be delivered to the Secretary General (chung@ie-sf.org ) not later than 5 October 2018."

IeSF Ordinary General Meeting 2016 held in Jakarta

The Ordinary General Meeting of the International e-Sports Federation (IeSF) was held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on 8 October 2016 during the 8th e-Sports World Championships. The Meeting has been conducted in the presence of 30 Member Nations, IeSF Secretariat, and the Board Members of IeSF. One of the most important agenda items for the General Meeting this year was the election for the positions of President and Board Members. For the position of President, Mr Byung Hun Jun was re-elected as the president of the IeSF through general consensus. President Jun commented in the meeting that “2016 has been challenging, yet a meaningful year for the IeSF as we are closer than ever in receiving the recognition by the International Sports Societies. IeSF has successfully finishing the application for SportAccord and the IOC recognition this year in August. This work has only been possible through the hard work and dedication of all member nations to enhance the e-Sports industry worldwide”. In addition, President Jun proposed three tasks for e-Sports to progress further ahead in the upcoming year. He stressed the importance of developing the ‘e-Sports Agenda 2020’, which would act as a guidance for IeSF and National Federations (NF) to work together to unify and standardize e-Sports globally. He also highlighted the importance of developing an NF guideline to promote good governance, transparency, and formation of sustainable National Federation structures. He finished his comments by emphasizing protection of athlete’s welfare and rights, which will be promoted with the help of Athlete’s Commission. During this year’s Annual General Meeting, election of the board members was also conducted with 6 candidates to result in re-election of 5 board members being:

Meanwhile, at the 2016 Ordinary General Meeting, Macau, Italy, and Nepal were elevated to the full members of IeSF. Among the new full members, Nepal eSports Association (NESA) is a national federation, which has already been recognized by the Nepal Olympic Committee and gained official recognition as a sport from its government. The new members will be given the rights in decision making processes within the Annual General Meeting including a voice and one vote for each nation.
