Results - MSSA's 2021 South African Online National High School Esports Championships.

Juan-Matthew Knoetsec (Middleburg High School) is the first learner from Middleburg to earn National High School Colours for Esports,

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) held its 2021 South African Online National High School Esports Championships on26 June 2021.

With schools having entered from around the country was encouraging to see the growth exhibited by the schools. The standard of play proved to be much  improved and many of thee older esports schools had to fight, desperately hard, to maintain their positions.

What is becoming more and more evident is that the schools that successfully develop and grow their esports sections, such schools treat esports like any other sport.

In other words, the successful schools have coaching, sometimes outsourced, pay attention to creating depth of playing talent, and promote activity in a number of game titles.

However, on a sadder note, not one school entered a female athlete. 

The growth and development of a true competitive culture starts at school level. If the schools themselves do not promote esports among female learners, such inbalance will be carried forward to senior competitive levels.

Nevertheless, MSSA's 2021 South African Online National High School Esports Championships proved to be an  exciting event.

18 Learners awarded South African National High School Colours for Esports.

The triumphant Jeppe Boys High School League of Legends Team.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is very proud of the standard exhibited on an annual basis. The standard improves from year-to-year as learners battle it out for the honours.

The honours are held in high esteem by the participants, schools, colleges, universities, and future employers. Such honours are often the difference of obtaining a bursary and/or scholarship and employment, or not achieving such.

The number  of such awards is five lower than in MSSA's 2020 Online SA National High Schools Championships due to the much improved average standard. Such colours are only awarded at this event to the team members and/or individual athletes who win each-and-every round. 

This is no small feat, and requires athletes to be at the top of their game throughout the event. The slightest lapse in judgement can be disastrous for the team pursuing such goals.

Nevertheless, fortitude and vigour prevailed for those fighting for seventeen of South Africa's finest.

A noteworthy triumph indeed!

Extension to entry date.


Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has already received a number of entries for its annual S A National School Championships to be held on 26 June 2021.

Nevertheless, MSSA has decided, due to a number of requests from schools to extend the entry date until 16H00 on 25 June 2021.

MSSA's S A National School Championships, which will offer local players the opportunity to qualify for selection to the national squad and for the Protea Team that will attend IESF's World Championships to be held in Eilat in 2021 should they meet the criteria.
