ZAG Academy to host a MSSA Derby event.

ZAG Academy supremo, Johan van Breda, is totally committed to the growth of esports in South Africa.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has developed and instituted an exciting new championship format being the Derby event.

Also with the South African governments Level 3 Regulations, only official events can be held. Thus the Derby event complies with the legislation in allowing smaller decentralised events on a more frequent basis and may even be held online.

The event also allows the member club hosting the event to obtain sponsorships.

It should be noted that while only a member club may host the event, such host may allow non member clubs to participate in the event.

Thus MSSA's members are able to spread the word that Board games, Esports, and Wargames are fully accredited sports while at the same time delivering even more to their Registered Players and the community as a whole.

As part of his exciting initiative ZAG Academy approved by the Board, on 19 August 2021.
ZAG Academy  will be hosting the event in two separate esports titles being DotA 2 and CounterStrike - GO.

The line-up represents teams the best that South Africa has to offer, being:

DotA 2Counter-Strike: GO
Sin 5 DOTARondebosch CS
ZAG DOTAZAG CS:GO
OEMSC DotAOEMSC CSGO

The winners of the event will not only earn their Regional Colours, but will also participate in qualifying for MSSA's National Team Trials.

Old Ed's Wargames Club to hold its AGM on 28 January 2018.

The Honours Boards at the Old Edwardian Society.
The Old Edwardian Wargames Club (OEWC) is the oldest member of Mind Sports South Africa.

The Old Edwardian Wargames Club started as the Johannesburg Wargames Club in 1982. In 1989 the Johannesburg Wargames Club moved to the Old Edwardian Society at 11 Ninth Avenue, Lower Houghton and renamed itself.

Again the club finds itself  in the position that it should rename itself.

Due to the changing nature of the club, the club no longer only caters for wargames, and has not for quite a while.

Thus the decision to rename the club, involves the club dropping 'wargames' to replace it with 'Mind Sports'.

Results: City of Johannesburg Regional Championships

Muhammed Laher
MSSA's 2017 City of Johannesburg Regional Championships was hosted by the Old Edwardian Wargames Club on 9 September 2017 for the 4th year in a row.

However, the Old Edwardian Wargames  Club has only held three periods (Ancients, FIFA '17, and Morabaraba) which now  allows other member clubs based inn Johannesburg to hold Regional Championships in other board game, esports, and wargames periods.

Readers should also be aware that MSSA awards Regional and Provincial Colours based on residency. Thus if a player lives in Polokwane but plays in the City of Johannesburg Regional Championships and qualifies for Regional Colours, such player would still be awarded Polokwane Regional Colours.

The winners of MSSA's 2017 City of Johannesburg Regional Championships are:

The club has produced no less than five (5) world champions, and also is actively involved in the administration of the sport at national and international levels.

The club too also is the only club in Johannesburg that has hosted City of Johannesburg Regional Championships.
