Theunis van der Merwe (Hoërskool Klerksdorp) time-and-time again demonstrates his superiority in the Street Fighter V esports title. |
And so the last Provincial Championship before Mind Sports South Africa's 2021 National Team Trials to be held online on 21 August 2021, has been held.
The online provincial championship system ensures that its esports athletes are not compromised in terms of being able to qualify for provincial colours and for possible inclusion in South Africa's National Protea Team to attend International Esports Federation's 12th World Championships in November in Eilat later this year, MSSA created the Online Provincial Championships.
Esports athletes played the FREE STATE Online Championships in the comfort and safety of their own homes and were still capable of competing on provincial, and even, a national level.
MSSA's FREE STATE Online Championships saw veteran esports Protea player, Jessie Joubert - of ZAG Academy - again lead his team to yet another victory in the Dota 2 esports title. ZAG Academy also took honours in two other titles, namely Counter-Strike: GO, HearthStone. In HearthSe tone it was a clean sweep for the club as the club won the senior, primary school and female divisions.
The Cape Town based PES Society maintained its stranglehold on the PES 2021 esports title, and Klerksdorp learner, Theunis van der Merwe, shows no intention whatsoever of giving up his dominance in the Street Fighter V esports title.
A record 18 athletes were awarded provincial colours for the 2021 gaming year.
The winners of MSSA's 2021 FREE STATE Online Championships are as follows:
