Results of North West Online Provincial Championships held on 29 August 2020

Anneke Lourens (Hoërskool Klerksdorp) won the female division for Clash Royale.

With MSSA's 2020 National Team Trials looming ever nearer (19 September 2020), Registered Players are furiously attempting to qualify for such Trials. Those who have already qualified are using the last few championships to perfect their craft.

Thus, MSSA's 2020 North West Online Provincial Championships held on 29 August 2020 proved to be the perfect vehicle for those who are still yet to qualify, and for those who are ironing out any of the kinks that they may have.

Even though the championship is designed to cater for athletes from the North West, Mind Sports South Africa's Board agreed to allow anyone to enter in the championship in order to fully enable all Registered Players every opportunity in qualifying for Trials.

Registered Players from around the country entered, and a good time has had by all.

All Registered Players who have finished in the first three places of the Premier division are eligible for National Team Trials as long as they have at least one other championship in which they have qualified. Those that have only qualified once, have another opportunity to qualify in the form of MSSA's Free State Online Provincial Championships to be held on 5 September 2020.

Theunis van der Merwe (Hoërskool Klerksdorp) shoots into second place.

Theunis van der Merwe (Hoërskool Klerksdorp) has moved up the rankings to challenge Unathi Nsimande's (Empangeni High School) grip of pole position.

With the completion of Mind Sports South Africa's NWU 9th Online Inter-School League the rankings for the esports title of StreetFighter V have changed substantially.

Newcomer, Theunis van der Merwe of Hoërskool Klerksdorp, who was previously unseeded, managed to win every single round to earn his provincial colours and walk away with the title of  MSSA's Theunis van der Merwe (Hoërskool Klerksdorp) champion for the StreetFighter V esports title.

Theunis' win places him fractionally behind Unathi Nsimande (Empangeni High School) whop still heads the rankings. It will indeed be interesting to see a face-to-face match between these two juggernauts.

Dale Spolander has set himself up as the man to beat.

With the results in for the first week of play, the NWU MSSA Online School League looks like it is going to be a most interesting affair.

With most of the top ranked players having won their first round matches, it seems as though the more experienced players will be able to hold their own.

However, it should be noted that with the increased size of the field there are also a number of unranked players that  have won their first round matches, such as Luan Raubenheimer and Immanuel Swart from Hoërskool Klerksdorp both of whom have jumped up the rankings.

It should too be noted that there are four more weeks before the league reaches its end. Since the league uses a modified Swiss-System, anything may still happen.

Who knows, there may be an athlete that had a bad start, and will surprise us all.
