Results: MSSA's 11th Provincial Online Championships

Oakhill School's 'Team Theory' has again notched up their second impressive win having won MSSA's Online Western Cape Championships and MSSA's 11th Provincial Online Championships.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is the  oldest national federation for esports in the world and has run official national events for esports every year since 1998.

Thus, even with the COVID-19 outbreak, MSSA continues to deliver events to its members so that Registered Players can continue doing what they love.

MSSA's 11th Provincial Online Championships, held on 18 April 2020, proved to be popular, and attracted entries from clubs around the country with the majority of provinces being represented.

Twenty-five (25) Registered Players earned Senior Provincial Colours, with one award going to the Free State, ten awards going to Gauteng, five awards going to KwaZulu Natal, one going to North West, and eight awards being awarded to Registered Players in Western Cape.

MSSA's 11th Provincial Online Championships counts towards earning a berth in MSSA's coveted National Team Trials. It is at such National Team Trials (NTT) that the national squads shall be selected, from which the official Protea Teams shall be chosen.

Thus there is much to play for, as Protea Colours are priceless.

It should be remembered that all the Registered Players who finished in the top three of the premier section qualify for the selection process. All such Registered Players who intend to participate in the selection process must have a valid passport by the  date of trials. Minors need to have all the additional information required by the state.

Thus, MSSA is still intent on delivering its national team to IESF's 12th World Championships to be held in Eilat, Israel in November 2020.

12th Esports World Championship - Game Titles Reveal Date

IESF's World Championships witnesses esports athletes represent their nations with pride.

International Esports Federation (IESF) had revealed that Sunday, March 1st, 2020 is the official announcement date of the game titles to be played at the 12th Esports World Championship in Eilat, Israel.

Aside from the game titles featured in the 12th Edition of the Esports World Championship, the announcement shall also include the dates of the event, as well as a first-time reveal of the event’s logo.

The Esports World Championship is IESF’s flagship competition, where gamers from all over the world participate in a unique and vibrant tournament while representing their national flag. 

The event is the only major Esports tournament featuring national teams, and this year’s competition is expected to be the largest one to date, with approximately 60 nations are set to participate.

The announcement shall be streamed live on IESF’s twitch channel. The exact time of the announcement will be shared soon via IESF’s social media channels.

is the only member National Federation to have delivered a full team, for all the various game titles every single year.
MSSA is once again committed to deliver a full team to Eilat, however, it must be noted that the team will be drawn from players who meet the criteria in MSSA's Regional, Provincial,  and National Championships.

Mind Sports South Africa's Esports Protea Team (sponsored by EnerGHack, NWU, Partnermedia, and ZAG Academy) was present at the closing speech at IESF's 11th World championships on 14 December 2019 when the host for IESF's 12th World Championships was announced.

The announcement caught many off-guard.

The 2012 host is none other than the resort town of Eilat in Israel.

Eilat is a southern Israeli port and resort town on the Red Sea, near Jordan. Its beaches are noted for their calm waters, like Dolphin Reef, where the aquatic mammals are often spotted. Known for snorkeling and diving, Coral Beach Nature Reserve has buoy-marked underwater trails among fish-filled reefs. Nearby Coral World Underwater Observatory Marine Park has a glass-enclosed observation center submerged offshore.

IESF officials have alreaddy inspected the venue, and are more than satisfied that Maccabiah in conjunction with Israeli Esports Federation will deliver the best-to-date World Championships.

Israel has already guaranteed that all are welcome and that all shall have safe entry.

Mind sports South Africa (MSSA) is already gearing itself to deliver a team to Eilat.

MSSA has always delivered a full team to every single World Championships, and there is no reason why 2020 will be any different.

Off course the game titles have not yet been announced, and MSSA is confident that it will be able to field a team in every game title selected.

Thus the race is on to Eilat. Who will make it into the team?

The chips  are down, and now it is up to the personal dedication, determination, and efforts of those who have the will to make it

Israel Open World Cup FMJD 2019 

The tournament will be held on November 20-27, 2019 in the hotel Residence in Netanya.

The tournament will be held according to the Swiss system 1 or 2 rounds per day (in total of 9 rounds).

Time control: 1 hour 20 minutes per game, addition 1 minute per each made move for participant. (Fischer’s clock). 

Three first places will be awarded with cups and medals of Israel Draughts Federation (IDF). 

The total prize fund is 2 000 EUR.

IDF offering accommodation in the hotel in the city — Netanya. This is the most convenient option, because the tournament will be held at the same hotel. 

Accommodation cost per night: 

Single room bed & breakfast — $ 98 per person per night 

Double room bed & breakfast — $ 108 ($ 54 per person per night) 

Triple room bed & breakfast — $ 148 ($ 49.3 per person per night)

The Competition fee For those who will stay in the official organizer’s hotel the tournament fee is 50 EUR. 

To other participants the tournament fee is 100 EUR. Participants over 70 years old will pay a competition fee of 20 EUR. Participation is free of charge for the players under 18 years old.

Israel wins League of Legends Test Match

On Saturday, 14 November 2015 Maryke 'Ykie' Kennard gallantly lead the MWEB Protea eSports Team for League of Legends to take on Israel in an official IeSF sanctioned Test Match that will hopefully further prepare the South African team for the IeSF's 7^th World Championships to be played in Seoul, South Korea.

The Protea Team played from THE H.I.V.E, Montecasino, Johannesburg, and was screened on http://www.twitch.tv/4dv_tv

The Protea Team got off to a nervous start in the first game. It should be noted that this was the first time that the current South African team had ever played against another national team. Even the IeSA's (Israeli eSports Federation) thought that the team went in too aggressively, and were thus punished for such aggression.

The second game saw a totally different Protea Team. The aggression and nervousness was gone, and in its place, under the careful guidance of team captain Maryke 'Ykie' Kennard, there was a greater level of a planned offensive. The Protea Team worked well as a cohesive unit and held the Israeli team.

However, the lag finally tipped the game in the favour of the Israeli's who finally, after a 55 minute match, wrested victory from the South African Team.

The test match certainly taught the South African Team just what to expect.

On the plus side, the Protea team demonstrated just how quickly they can learn, implement, and adapt.

The team leaves for Korea on 30 November 2015.

South Africa takes on Israel in League of Legends

Saturday, 14 November 2015 will see the MWEB Protea eSports Team for League of Legends take on Israel in a IeSF official test match that will hopefully further prepare the South African team for the IeSF's 7^th World Championships to be played in Seoul, South Korea.

Both Ryan Boyes (National Team Manager) and Johan Uys (Coach) have expressed that the team is excited about the match.

According to both the team is well practised and is the strongest League of Legends team that MSSA can put into the field. There is no doubt that MSSA's Israeli counterpart (IeSA) are taking this game as seriously.

Already, since the announcement of the team, there has been a huge amount of support for the team.

Prior to the game, the team shall be awarded their Protea Colours.

South Africa loses to Denmark and Israel - but do it in style!

From the MSSA:

"The Tri-Nations  held between Denmark, Israel and South Africa was held at MWEB's MCAVE on Saturday, 12 October 2013 from 18H00.

Philisande Macwili was there to represent the Western Cape Department of Sports and Recreation, and to award the National Federation Colours to the South African team.

The first match of the evening was South Africa against Israel. The young South African team was nervous, but they handled the game like troopers. It became very noticeable that the South African team were indeed very nervous on their first international match, and a number of mistakes were made that allowed the Israeli's to take full advantage and punish the South African team at every turn.

However, the South African team, loosened up in the dying moments of the games, and started to claw their way back into the game, but it was too late, and the Israeli's finished the game as the victors.

After the break, the South Africans had to face the juggernaut that is Denmark.

However, the young captain, Conradie van Heerden had re-inspired his team, and the South African team that took to the field of battle seemed to be a totally different team altogether.

Although the Danish team is without doubt one of the favourites in international League of Legends competition, the South African team came out fighting.

The audience at MWEB's MCAVE was ecstatic with the very different game play, and South Africa fought long and hard against Denmark, making the marauding Danes pay dearly for every victory during the game.

However, strength and experience won the day, and the Danes chalked up yet another victory as South Africa finally had to concede to the European team. It was a hard game, but the South Africans had played well above their usual standard.

Team member Kyle Rhoodie said to Philisande Macwili, "It was a hard game, harder than any game I have ever played before. I am glad that I did it as I have learned so much. It is one thing to watch the top players in the world, and it is another thing to play them. They were everywhere in the game, but we will be ready for them the next time we play".

Conradie van Heerden too stated, "It was an honour to play for South Africa, the help from MWEB is also invaluable in allowing the team to improve. Now that we know what we are up against, we know where our faults lie, and we know on what we have to work. The team played hard and every member gave of their best., but we can do better, and we will!"

After the match against Denmark, the team joined the audience to watch Denmark against Israel.

Denmark flew into action and immediately began inflicting damage. There was no doubt as to who was going to win. The strength and experience of the Danes also proved too much for the Israelis.

Thus the Danes took the Tri-Nations, 

with Israel finishing in second place, and South Africa finishing in third place.

After the match the Israeli team captain, Tal Winter said, "The TriNations were really enjoyable event and the games against both SA and Denmark were challenging and good. The event was helpful to us, as it showed us how much we have to work and improve until the IeSF World Championship, and we are looking forward to see SA and Denmark again in Romania." This is also the first time that South Africa will compete in an officially sanctioned competition for League of Legends. The Tri-Nations is thus, without doubt, a fore-runner of things to come

It is thus clear that at the MWEB MCAVE, new friends were made, competition was had, and more importantly, all the teams had fought and strived for honour, .

Tri-Nations between Denmark, Israel, and South Africa - League of Legends

"On the eve of the first Tri-Nations in which South Africa has ever played, Mind Sports South Africa has released the details of the team.

The Tri-Nations shall be held between Denmark, Israel and South Africa on Saturday, 12 October 2013 at 18H00 in preparation for the 2013 IeSF World Championships.

This is also the first time that South Africa will compete in an officially sanctioned competition for League of Legends. The Tri-Nations is thus, without doubt, a fore-runner of things to come.

Through the generous sponsorship from MWEB, the MSSA was able to begin its role out of on-line inter-regional championships, participate in the IeSF's on-line Dota 2 Test Matches, and now participate in the Tri-Nations against Israel and Denmark.

While Israel may be, as yet an unknown team, the Danish team is renowned for its prowess at the game of League of Legends. Only last weekend on 5 October 2013, the Danish team ripped the French team apart, and the Spanish team choose to rather forfeit the game than face the marauding Danes.

Thus the Tri-Nation match will give the young South African team a good taste of what to expect at the World Championships.

The entire South African team shall play from MWEB's MCAVE at the MWEB head office.

Conradie van Heerden, the young team captain, from Durbanville, has stated that the South African team is not afraid of facing one of Europe's best, and is quite looking forward to meeting the challenge. Conradie said, “No matter what, the experience will prove to be invaluable practice for South Africa's first foray into the world of international competition in the game of League of Legends”.

The South African team will be awarded National Federation Colours just prior to the start of the game. Protea Colours will only be awarded to the final team that is approved to attend the 2013 IeSF World Championships.
