Tonight's the night...


South Africa has played against Namibia in a number  of test matches in the FIFA esports title, but tonight, for the first time, South Africa will take on Namibia in a match wherein PRO  EVOLUTION SOCCER (PES 2020) in a bid to qualify for the prestigious IESF 12th World Championships -Eilat, 

Riezwaan Hakim shall represent Mind Sports South Africa's official Protea Esports Team, as sponsored by ZAG Academy and EnerGHack.

Riezwaan Hakim has already excelled in the South African scene, and comfortably won MSSA's National Team Trials. He has already shown great dedication and commitment to tonight's game by throwing himself into a gruelling training schedule.

All MSSA's officials are convinced that Riezwaan will represent South Africa, MSSA, PES SOCIETY, and himself with pride.

DOTA 2 - Team Esports South Africa takes on Namibia

 

In a bid to qualify for the prestigious IESF 12th World Championships -Eilat, Mind Sports South Africa's official Protea Esports Team, sponsored by ZAG Academy and EnerGHack, once again take on Namibia.

The matches between South Africa and Namibia are fast becoming a grudge-match.

So far the Proteas have a credit balance against Namibia in DoTA, having won in 2014, lost in 2019 (at IESF's 11th World Championships), and having won again in 2020.

However, Namibia is not taking the qualifying match lightly, and have restructured their team to be, what many believe, to be the strongest DoTA 2 team ever fielded by Namibia.

Thus, South Africa  has its work cut out for itself, and only time will tell as to who will emerge as the victor.

The South African team consists of seasoned athletes under the astute leadership of Jessie Joubert.

Tournament Schedule for IESF Regional Qualifiers - 12th World Championships - Eilat.


International Esports Federation (IESF) has announced the dates for its upcoming Regional Tournaments of 12th Esports World Championships - Eilat, Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has also announced the players who will officially represent South Africa as members of the Protea Esports Team in such event.

The PES, TEKKEN 7 and DOTA 2 esports titles are expected to be hotly contested approximately 60 nations.

South Africa, through Mind Sports South Africa, will be participating in all three esports titles. MSSA, as the world's oldest national federation, is the only federation to have participated in all official titles at all IESF's World Championships since their inception in 2009.

To represent South Africa as a member of the national Protea Esports Team, a player has to be registered by a member club and be a South African citizen.

The advantages of being a member of the national Protea Esports Team are priceless, and may include earning bursaries, increases in salary, and a greater sense of personal worth.

There is nothing as rewarding as officially representing your country on the field of sport. The memories last forever, and friendships made endure.

D-Day approaches.


All the days, months, and years of preparation shall be put to the test on 19 September 2020, at the much advertised Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) 2020 National Team Trials.

The lock-down imposed as a result of the advent of COVID-19 has posed a number of trials to both MSSA and the players alike. 

If anything, the most important lesson to be learned from the recent months is that people should be prepared for the unexpected and to have a 'war-chest' in their arsenal upon which they can rely.

Nevertheless, MSSA is expecting a solid turnout at its 2020 National Team Trials.

Blake Govender (Oakhill School) and Charlize Seremak (ZAG Academy) both represented South Africa as members of the Protea Esports Team at IESF's 11th World Championships - Seoul, and shall be present at MSSA's 2020 National Team Trials in order to fight for a place in South Africa's Protea Esports Team at IESF's 12th World Championships - Eilat.

In order to take circumstances into account, 2020 will see trials, for the first time ever be held online.

However, the trials are not just for the three disciplines being contested at IESF's 12th World Championships - Eilat, being DotA 2, Tekken 7, and PES 2020, the trials are for all the following esports titles:

  • Clash Royale 
  • Counter-Strike: GO
  • DotA 2 
  • FIFA 20
  • HearthStone
  • League of Legends
  • Paladins
  • PRO EVOLUTION SOCCER (PES)
  • Street Fighter V
  • Tekken 7

MSSA President, Amanda Kwaza, stated, "I am satisfied with the preparation for the 2020 National Team Trials, and am confident that all participants will enjoy the event and give off their best so that MSSA can select the best possible team to represent South Africa in Eilat."

IESF's 12th Esports World Championship - Eilat now set to December 6th - 12th, 2020.


COVID-19 has affected every aspect of our existence. 

Even esports has felt the brunt of the pandemic with face-to-face events having to be cancelled and/or delayed in favour of online events. 

Even International Esports Federation (IESF) has had to take these new realities into account with its 12th World Championships. 

Cautiously, but correctly, IESF has opted to run its 12th World Championships very differently this year. 

Regional qualifiers shall be done online with the finals being done as a 'real' event in Eilat on December 6th - 12th, 2020. 

 Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is the only national federation to have participated in each and every IESF World Championships in every title offered since 2009, and the only national federation that has had female team members in all MSSA teams, since 2012, that have attended, and participated in such IESF World Championships. 

However, it should be noted that no-one if yet fully aware of what lies in store in terms of COVID-19, and as such, dates may be amended to meet the demands of changing circumstances. 

 As soon as the Regional tournament dates are announced, MSSA shall advise all members accordingly.

Rankings: Tekken 7 rankings

Charlize Seremak, who represented South Africa at IESF's 11th World Championships, heads South Africa's current rankings.
International Esports Federation (IESF) has already announced that Tekken 7 shall be played at its 12th World Championships - Eilat - in November 2020. Thus there is frantic activity in the game title as players jostle for position in order to be selected for MSSA's Protea Team.

Ever since Vittorio Puissa represented Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) in 2011 in IESF's World Championships, MSSA has always submitted a full team to such world championships in every single year that the Tekken game title was held. 

Since 2012, three females have represented South Africa in Tekken at IESF World Championships, being:  Lyrene Kűhn, Morizane Boyes, and Charlize Seremak.

It should be noted that all MSSA Regional, Provincial, and National Championships, as well as online championships and online leagues count towards selection to the national team.

Being selected to represent South Africa at IESF's World Championships is the highest honour that an esports athlete in South Africa can earn. Such player is awarded the much coveted Protea Colours - the same as in any other sport, and the experience of being thrust among the world's best legends in the game.
