Calling all volunteers.

MSSA President, Colin Webster, strongly believes that the participation from younger Registered Players is vital for MSSA to deliver exciting products to its members.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) was founded back on 14 December 1985. MSSA depends entirely on volunteers to 'man' the Board of this non profit body.

The Board should consist of a maximum of sixteen (16) officials who help administrate MSSA on a daily basis.

Unfortunately, due to members resigning, there are a number of vacancies.

These vacancies may be filled by the Board from Registered Players who volunteer their services. The Board may only co-opt volunteers for the remainder of the year. Such ruling prevents the Board from loading the Board with people for the entire three-year term and thus compromising the democratic process which is so firmly entrenched within MSSA.

The following positions are thus available:

  • 2 x Executive Officer positions
  • Board Gaming Representative
  • Card Gaming Representative
  • Computer (Esports) Gaming Representative
  • Legal Advisor
  • Disabled Gamer’s Representative
Should you be interested in serving MSSA and the South African community in any/all of the activities for which MSSA is a custodian, please submit your Curriculum Vitae (CV) to Mindsportscorrespondence@gmail.com on or before 31 May 2022.

Remember that should a person be co-opted, the person so co-opted has to be a Registered Player in good standing.

Official events in South Africa.

Not only is Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is the oldest national federation for esports in the world having been founded in 1985, but it arguably, runs more types of events in esports than any othernational federation or private company in the world.

A number of the events, such as, Derby and Regional Championships, are designed to assist member clubs raise funding for their own purposes in developing esports, and mindsports in general.

All official events have an upward path in order to allow the athlete to qualify for National Team Trials, and hopefully, selection to the Protea Team.

Of course these events may be held in each and every discipline, such as Board Games, Esports, and Wargames. This does mean that MSSA has an action packed calendar of events.

The number of events is vital for preparing athletes for international competition.

Get paid to train gamers.

Kingfisher's initiative will take South Africa's gaming to new heights.

In many aspects South Africa is well ahead of the curve in gaming, and in others woefully behind.

South Africa has produced world champions in wargames, morabaraba, and checkers, as well as having produced sterling results in esports. However the results have been spasmodic at best and have largely relied on the efforts of interested volunteers and dedicated athletes who have put their own time, efforts, and resoures into the mix.

There is now a truly exciting development that will change the way in which trainers and athletes are prepared for high level competition.

Kingfisher Gaming is establishing South Africa's first, if not the first in the world, High Performance Centre (HPC) for gaming in which both trainers and athletes will be paid.

Salaries will be between R15,000.00 to R20,000.00 per month for trainers.

The job will entail the following:

  1. Learning the games we suggest backwards and forwards with all of the nuances.
  2. Being able to teach those games to our less experienced employees and ultimately elevate them to the level of trainers.
  3. Create YouTube channels around playing the games and teaching the games.

Kingfisher will provide:

  1. Any of the equipment necessary for streaming, playing and training.
  2. All of the space necessary.
  3. A great space to play and jam.

You should be a die hard gamer and be looking for the opportunity to make money playing games and being fully passionate about it.

The initiative will be start off with games similar to Hearthstone.

Please submit a CV of your gaming experience.

The application may be found on: https://kfmed.bamboohr.com/jobs/view.php?id=49

Applications must be submitted by the close of business on Friday, 27 August 2021.

The various events held by Mind Sports South Africa.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), the oldest national federation for esports in the word in runs a plethora of events during each and every year. It is through such events that Registered Players qualify for the National Team selection process. It should be noted that MSSA first awarded Protea Colours (then Springbok Colours) for Wargames in 1995, for Board Gaming in 1997,and for Esports in 2005. It was entirely through MSSA's efforts that Wargames, Board Gaming, and Esports became accredited sports.

Volunteers stand at the core of MSSA, and without whom, nothing would get done or be achieved. MSSA is indeed blessed to have sterling volunteers who act as administrators, umpires, and technical officials. It is only due to the involvement of such volunteers MSSA is able to host so many activities.

All the volunteers are deeply appreciated, as well as the sponsors (EnerGHack, North West University, Partnermedia, Tuluntulu, and ZAG Academy) - well done! Without their dedication and commitment, MSSA would not have achieved what it has!

In 2019, MSSA held no fewer than 30 events. Even in 2020 with the devastating effects of COVID-19, MSSA was still able to hold 22 events under the most trying circumstances.

MSSA runs the following:

Getting to the top.

MSSA president, Amanda Kwaza, has demonstrated time-after-time that she is a competant administrator.
Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) is a non profit association that is run entirely by volunteers who are elected in by the member clubs.

While everybody aims at getting to the Board, which is a noteworthy ambition in itself, it should be remembered that in order to sit on the Board, Registered Players have to meet stipulated criteria.

One such criteria is to have served two terms as a Regional Director.

As all South Africans are aware, South Africa has 56 Regions. South Africa is divided into provinces, and below that into Regions (which may consist of one or more municipalities).

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) conforms to all such demarcations.

Thus MSSA holds Regional Championships in order to ensure it has an effective footprint.

Regional Directors only have a one-year term and are accountable directly to the Management Board.

The roles and duties of the Regional Directors are:
  • To be a member of the Provincial Board of Control,
  • To liaise with local government,
  • To liaise with clubs within such region,
  • To act as Tournament Director for MSSA's regional championships in such region,
  • To select such Regional Teams, and
  • To manage such Regional Teams.

The term of office for a Regional Director is one year from the date of election at MSSA's Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Please note that only Registered Players may stand for the position in the region in which  they live.

If you want to be a Regional Director, ask your club to nominate you to the Management Board as soon as possible on mindsportscorrespondence@gmail.com.
