Results of MSSA's NWU 13th Annual School League - 2022.


For 13 years, without fail, Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has run its Online School League. While MSSA remains indebted to ASUS as the first sponsor of such league in 2010.

However, with MSSA's partnership with North West University (NWU), since 2019, the league has been elevated to new heights.

2022 also saw MSSA's NWU Annual School League become the richest school league in the country.

Not only can learners earn much needed funds for their school esports, but one such expert learner earns a fantastic bursary to the value of R30,000.00 to assist in his studies at the prestigious North West University.

Esports allows all schools to play on an equal playing ground as public and private schools battle it out against each other. With esports, gone are the days of wealthier schools dominating sports as esports provides a cost effective system for any school, whether in Cape Town or in Beit Bridge, to compete against each other without the huge travelling costs incurred by the more traditional sporting codes.

Of special note, is Dawnview High School which is the first school to enter a team comprising of both genders.

Such team took first place in the Mobile Legends Bang Bang esports title and all earned themselves Gauteng High School Provincial Colours in the process.

After fierce and gruelling competition between learners from around the country, the winners are:

All finishing in the top three places have all rightfully earned a place in MSSA's 2023 National Team Trials to be held on 12 August 2023 should such athletes still be registered learners.

Fighting for a share of ZAR844,000.00.



While not every University, like Wits, NWU, Tuks, and Maties, have esports clubs properly affiliated to Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) a number of students are concerned that they miss out on the massive opportunity offered in respect of representing South Africa in Moscow against Russia, Serbia, and Kazakhstan.

To recap, there is prize money of 1,500,000 Rubles, which equates to ZAR422,927.33, per game title.

The prize fund is broken down as follows:

1st place ­– 800 000 Rubles

2nd place – 400 000 Rubles

3rd place – 200 000 Rubles

4th place – 100 000 Rubles

To ensure maximum participation, where a student is not a member of a tertiary institution club affiliated to MSSA, such Registered Player may play for his/her own club.

Should a player not be a Registered Player affiliated to a member club, and still want to try to be selected at MSSA's North West Online Esports Championships to be held on 27 August 2022, all such athlete need do is:

It is incredibly easy to constitute a club and to affiliate.

MSSA shall assist every applicant every part of the way, but time is of the essence, and all such applications must be submitted by 17H00 on Friday, 25 August 2022.

    Closing date for entries to MSSA Online School League -20 July 2021.


    Mind Sports South Africa's MSSA Online School League is to be played from the week ending Saturday, 24 July 2021, Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has confirmed the closing date to be 20 July 2021.

    By playing in the official school league, learners are able to also earn:
    • Medals for finishing in the first three places in the various game titles, and
    • School Provincial Colours, and
    • A berth in MSSA's National Team Trials.
      The entry fee is R50.00 per player. The esports titles to be played are as follows:

Such applications must be directed to the MSSA at: e-mail: mindsportscorrespondence@gmail.com 

      Players who are registered with any school may participate.

      Players are reminded that the majority choice of rules as at the closing date for entries shall be used.

      Entry fees can be deposited directly into Mind Sports South Africa's account, held at ABSA Bank, account number, 90 4766 7676. 

      No entries shall be accepted without MSSA having received proof of payment.

      The following Medals may be awarded at MSSA's 2021 Annual Inter-School League:
      • HIGH SCHOOL (FEMALE): Medals shall be awarded to the first three high school scholars.
      • PRIMARY SCHOOL (FEMALE): Medals shall be awarded to the first three high school scholars.
      • HIGH SCHOOL (MALE): Medals shall be awarded to the first three high school scholars.
      • PRIMARY SCHOOL (MALE): Medals shall be awarded to the first three high school scholars.
        Colours and National Team Trials:
        • Provincial Colours: All Players who win all of their Matches at MSSA's 2021 Annual Inter-School League will earn Provincial Colours.
        • Provincial Colours: All Players who score within the top 50% in a specific Period at a Provincial Championship, and who also score within the top 50% at MSSA's 2021 Annual Inter-School League in the same period and in the same year, shall earn Provincial Colours.
        • National Team Trials: All Players that score within the top 20% or top three places, whichever is greater, in a specific Period at a Provincial or National Championship will be eligible for selection for the National Squad.

          Closing date for entries to NWU MSSA Online School League - Friday, 10 July 2020.

          The NWU MSSA Online School League to be played from the week ending Friday, 17 July 2020, Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) has confirmed the closing date to be 10 July 2020.

          As already reported, the Online League (NWU MSSA Online School League) offers prizes other than just the medals and provincial colours. The prizes include:
          • A R30,000.00 Bursary for the winner of the StreetFighter V esports title, and
          • R5,000.00 Prize money for the School for the winner of the Paladins esports title, and
          • R5,000.00 Prize money for the School for the winner of the DotA 2 esports title, and
          • R5,000.00 Prize money for the School for the winner of the efootball PES 2020 esports title.
          By playing in the official school league, learners are able to also earn:
          • Medals for finishing in the first three places in the various game titles, and
          • School Provincial Colours, and
          • A berth in the 2020 MSSA National Team Trials.
